great service. great drinks. very cozy atmosphere. everything we have ever eaten on the menu was delicious and we have eaten at least 20 times in the last 5 years. however avoid the nola bbq garnelen. note how real nola bbq garnelen. Except for the court, you can't go wrong here! and the kitchen is open late! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Half Shell:
Thr food used to be better. I ordered the gumbo and it was too thick. Needed a loose consistency such as extra broth or heck, water. The salmon cakes are very dry. My drinks were basic, nothing fancy or overpoured. I'd recommend going at night vs. for lunch. The bartenders are better. View all feedback.
Got the half and half oysters and these other oysters with Parmesan cheese and they were delicious! The crab cakes were good (only two), and the crab bisque was eh. Overall everything else very tasty though! Our waitress was super nice!Dietary restrictions: If you have any dietary restrictions and they will let you know what to get and what not to eat! I didn’t realize the bisque had diary so that was on me. I should have mentioned any restrictions when putting my order in.
If I could give the service a 0, I absolutely would. It took a while for us to even get our fountain drinks, the server took our order, then immediately brought the check whenever our food came out “because she had a long shift today and wanted to go home”. Not to mention the fact that we were rushed the entire time AND our server attempted to remove our plates from the table before we were done eating. This is absolutely unacceptable service coming from someone who works in the restaurant industry. It’s especially unacceptable for an 18% gratuity charge to be added for the service you did not receive. I am normally a very generous tipper, and would have not minded gratuity if the service was there. If you are looking for a good restaurant experience, I would seriously consider going elsewhere.
Food was ok but overpriced. $25 for 12 chilled peel and eat shrimp that were room temp at best. Bisque was good and is consistent. At the front door there is a sign that says 18% added after 4pm. Which is fine, however the server added 19.8% instead and then brought back less change than he was supposed to. So he ended up taking it upon himself to take a 23% tip, of which he was not worthy. I confronted him about it and he said he would get the manager. I waited for quite a while and never saw him or the manager so I left and posted here instead.
Half Shell is a great after work or afternoon watering hole. The staff is amazing and friendly. The oysters are amazing and prepared to perfection. I have yet to have a bad meal here. The Louisiana Grilled Oysters are my favorite thing to get along with the red beans and rice.
I came here today with my daughter. It took an inordinate amount of time to even be acknowledged once we were sat. When the server did come, she was very nice and recommended a drink from cocktail menu at my request. I asked for a tequila that was of a better quality to be substituted. They did not have that particular liquor and she recommended one they they did have. The drink was horrible. I returned the drink. They also brought out horribly torched/burnt grilled oysters that they knew were burnt and still served. I did not return them and ate the very rubbery oysters. Long story short, they still charged me for the drink and the oysters (although they did send more home with me that I did not request). I spoke with the manager, Mike, about this and he is probably the most incompetent manager I’ve ever contacted. All in all, go across the street to a better restaurant but the service is lacking here folks. Do better.
