What Lia D'angelo doesn't like about Sake Restaurant and Bar Melbourne:
After visiting Sake for the 5th time and spending the best part of $500 per visit (x4) each time "incl decent bubbles and wine so let's say $80 per head on food, this visit will be last unless they review and refresh; 1 - menu - fab food but needs more innovation, the specials are special once or twice but need updating. 2 - portion sizes ..... we love lots of plates to sample and always leave it to staff to decide .... My girlfriend and I had an amazing dining experience at Sake. We love Japanese food, and I had read great reviews of this restaurant, so our expectations were high. From the moment we were greeted by the staff, they looked after us so well. Our server, Kate, was fantastic! We asked for her recommendations, and she knew the menu well and explained everything that she recommended perfectly. She knew how to wine match with the food we chose, and was there when we needed, and not when we didn't (I can't stand servers that hover over you all night). I hope the manager recognizes how good Kate is. All the food we had was amazing. The Popcorn Shrimp is a must have, and the Duck Breast was so so good. Not exactly a budget friendly meal, but worth it for the great food, wine, cocktails, and service. Plus the view over the Yarra is fantastic.
We made a reservation a a group of 5 adults 2 small children for dinner. Location is absolutely amazing and the place is gorgeous!! However, the food was ok, nothing special, but the prices are skyrocketing!! After this dinner we (where we spent nearly a $1K) we order more sushi and ta huge place of difference types was delivered to our house for just under $100. IF you want a view - this is the place to go, but expect to leave hungry, unless you spend a few grads there.

That's dumb! Charge per portion and then it's highly likely that some plates will get double ordered! 3 - when wine at same time as food ..... why were we 3 courses in before bottle arrived? On the very positive side the staff are excellent, smiling and attentive (apart from wine!)
Came here before going to the State Theatre, had a 5.30pm booking. The staff are great and made us feel welcome immediately. We were seated while we waited for the rest of our group and ordered cocktails. The waitress was extremely knowledgeable and recommended dishes to us. The food was amazing. It was so good that we came back for dessert after the show and were welcomed like long lost cousins. We had a great night and are even talking of coming back soon.
Cold winters afternoon, ballet to attend in the evening, where better to kill time with a drink or two and waiting for the kitchen to open?We were warm out of the weather and warming with the drinks and nibbles prior to our meal.It was a grand meal, fresh, beautifully prepared and served. Attentive staff and a nice ambience.
