It has been a while since the last visit but returned this time with the wife. Decor still the same & food exceptionally good. We shared soft shell crab to start at $9/ serve a delicious course & we regretted not having a serve each. Probably one of the best soft shell crabs we have been served. Mains wereTeriyaki beef (a bit chewy) whilst i loved the Tonkatsu Pork which my wife described as crumbed pork schnitzel !!... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Men-Tei Ramen:
Totally tasteless Ramens ever eaten so far by the most friendly staff. Would have appreciated the efforts since running a restaurant isn't easy but nothing that we ordered was worth mentioning. View all feedback.
Great food and service, can not wait to come back with foodies to try other dishes! We order main tempura and sashimi both are really fresh are made to date, regret did not take photos to post on.Thank you so much mentei team
Wow! This place has changed! Apparently under new ownership and it really shows in the food!<br/ <br/ We ordered a Charsyu Ramen, Teriyaki Salmon Don, Agedashi tofu, Veggie Gyoza and the Yakitori skewers.<br/ <br/ The pictures should speak for themselves, but holy cow, the presentation was lovely! My partner and I have eaten at much more expensive Japanese restaurants to get this kind of plating and flavour.<br/ <br/ The Yakitori skewers were super punchy in their flavour. It was like being at a Japanese BBQ in a single dish. The grilled flavour oozed out of the chicken (which was amazingly cooked thigh fillet . I will order this every time I come back.<br/ <br/ Veggie Gyoza were so smooth, but still had that crispy underside. I was surprised at how delicate they were while still holding their shape. To have that kind of pan fried flavour, I usually find it is a much tougher gyoza not the case at all here. And, the filling had a lot of thought put into it and the best part is I could actually taste all of the ingredients!<br/ <br/ Agedashi tofu.... simply divine is the only way to put it. Delicately fried outer layer sitting in one of the most delicious broths I have ever tasted. This is a MUST order.<br/ <br/ Charsyu Ramen. You will be hardpressed to find a better tasting ramen for this price. It's not just their broth. It's the quality of the ingredients. I don't know how they cooked the pork (it would be rude to ask their secret! , but it is the kind of pork that just melts in your mouth. I highly recommend ordering the extra Charsyu... you're going to need it!<br/ <br/ Teriyaki Salmon Don... I had to ask about this one. The salmon was actually just unreal. Fresh salmon. And, cooked to perfection. The slightly crisp outer layer which breaks way to a soft and smooth centre. This is probably one of the most well balanced flavoured Don dishes I have eaten. The chefs palate is so finely tuned... The balance of sweet, salty and umami was so delightful. Each mouthful felt a little different... I could not get sick of eating it.
New owners and amazing food!<br/ <br/ I took my family here for lunch and I was so pleasantly surprised. Everything was presented beautifully and of course, it tasted fantastic! We ordered the vegetarian and the pork gyoza (which were on point! , sashimi platter (beautiful and smooth , salmon don (which my dad raved about , chicken curry don (nothing fancy, but exactly I expected delicious and tempura udon (omg the tempura! .<br/ <br/ I will be going back here again very soon!<br/ <br/ Thank you also to Mentei for being very friendly and hospitable
I visited this restaurant on a Friday with friends and saw many people sitting inside. We decided to dine here and found it to be a great place to catch up with friends. The value and portion sizes were excellent, and the staff was friendly. I will definitely be returning and highly recommend this place.
Cute little ramen store near the corner of Glenferrie and High Streets. I ordered the yasai croquettes and the miso ramen $21.50 total. One of the croquettes filling was sweet potato and the colour was purple! Very quiet for a Wednesday lunchtime. I was the only person in the store at 12.20pm. A solid 3.5 from me :
