Customers enjoyed tasty soups, cakes, ploughmans, and a pot of tea. While some felt the prices were a bit steep, the quality of food and service was generally good. The service was friendly, with polite staff, although a lack of attention towards acknowledging and checking in with customers was noted by some. The cafe offers a unique and quirky experience, with old books to peruse and a cozy atmosphere that encourages lingering.
Visited with my wife dog for a drink initially, but also had 2 meals for a light lunch. Food drinks were very good and tasty. Service was excellent. Furnishings and decor was very nice. Will definitely return next time we are in Upton.
10 out of 10. Whilst far from a unique concept, this is a rare example of a successful combined coffee and bookshop one that actually works. Smart decor, attentive staff, very tasty coffee and cakes. The books were (for once) neatly displayed by category, excellent condition and reasonably priced. It was also open on Sunday. What's not to like?
Popped in for a coffee. Asked for a small mocha and a small cappuccino with no chocolate on top. Complete mix up with the order and the coffee was awful, so bland and no more than a cup of milk. The cappuccino came with chocolate on and then we got charged 20p extra for a sprinkling of chocolate on the mocha and got charged for a large cappuccino despite only ordering and being served a small. When we questioned it we just got a host of excuses about price rises despite the menu not mentioning about a charge for chocolate on top! No acknowledgement of the errors made and they would not change the bill. Definitely won’t go back.
A lovely friendly little cafe and bookshop. Delightful surroundings and great staff. Good food and value for money.
Stopped for a quick spot of lunch after a long drive. We opted for two soups (butternut squash that day) and a pot of tea. The soup was delicious and you were served extra hot water for the tea. A nice touch. The only reason I didn’t score 5 stars was due to when you order your food the waitress then just shouts the order through to the kitchen from where she is standing. We found this quite comical in the end but if the orders were just passed to the chef would’ve made for a better experience!
