In Mae Sot, you can experience authentic Burmese culture without leaving Thailand, and a prime example of this is the various Burmese tea houses in its small center. The most famous one is located in Wannar Plaza, called Poe Htoo tea shop, and it is easily recognizable because it is completely open to the street, allowing you to see all the low tables where locals sit. The experience is unique: after being greeted with a smiling "migalaba!" and ordering the sweet and traditional Burmese tea, you will be served some snacks that you can choose to eat (and pay for) or not, but I recommend trying them because they are delicious! In the mornings, they serve mohinga, the traditional breakfast soup that the Burmese people eat every day, but you can visit at any time of day as they also serve a la carte dishes. Without a doubt, an experience not to be missed in Mae Sot!
