The meat prices are at the higher end of the menu at this smokehouse. It ultimately comes down to personal taste. While I don't typically use BBQ sauce, I let others be the judge. When I tried the sauce, I could tell it was all about the meat. The creamed corn was really amazing, and the baked mac and cheese was decent. I've also tried their deep-fried corn nuggets before, and they were very good and a nice option fo... View all feedback.

1st time there. Food good. Atmosphere/decor not what I expected not bad just different. Waitress failed to point out the list of beers on tap (ended up with a canned beer off the menu). Didn't like having a dine in meal served in take-out containers with plastic utensils.

Not as good as Jimmy's BBQ pit in Boone, Iowa but the staff is very attentive, energetic and the atmosphere is great. Also whatcha smoking has sausages which Jimmy's BBQ pit doesn't haveAnd Pecan Pie. If the place isn't slammed busy definitely stop by for some of the best BBQ Iowa has to offer
Whatcha Smokin is well worth the drive up from the metro! The food is fantastic, absolutely top notch BBQ. Done in the Texas style with a generous helping of Iowa influenced sides, everything was fantastic. I would highly recommend the brisket- I was offered a choice between the lean and fattier cut. I went with the fattier cut and was impressed with the flavor and texture. Simply superb! My only criticism is that dishes were served (again, like they do at the Texas BBQ spots) in disposable containers, which felt a little wasteful. Granted, it reduces the clean up and the focus of Watcha Smokin is undeniably on their amazing meats. Top marks!
Unfortunately the location was very busy and we were unable to get a table for our party of seven. I don't believe you are able to make reservations, so you may want to call ahead to check on availability. The food, looked amazing and we really wish we could have had a chance to give it a try. Based on the crowd, I would assume it's a local favorite and definitely a location that is sought out by surrounding neighborhoods. There is parking in the front and also behind the building, so don't be discouraged if you don't see an open spot immediately..
I guess it's 5-star when the next closest place to eat is a Subway or a Casey's. The meal I ordered boasted that it would feed two adults and two children. I still ordered 3/4 slab of pork ribs, and cheese curds. I was told to pick up at 5. I got there at 5 on the dot, the food was already on the counter, and the girl said it was HOT. It was warm, at best. The side sizes were not very big. The ribs meh, kinda dry. Only picked up there because I was already in Madrid and heard big things.
