Lovely meal with good service and friendly staff. I like the idea of the tasting menu since it lets you try things that you wouldn't normally eat. There is a vegetarian version of the set menu and they allowed selection of dishes from either menu where required. Stand out dish for me was the nettle soup. It was smooth and tasty with some very tasty herbs. We were so impressed we asked which herbs they were. Service w... View all feedback.
What Winona Ferry doesn't like about Lyle's:
I can't believe that they serve us two glasses wee with really dirty glasses, they can still see the lips on the rim! that is not what michelin a star restaurant standard. eating is also very slow. View all feedback.
Creative, fresh and surprising eating in a no-frills, but cool environment. very good value for money and a very pleasant night out. excellent option in london.
The eating was delicious, but for non-fish eaters was less than satisfactory, even when headsup were given. the wine list was eclectic for my taste.
Very nice service, but the location is a bit unlustered and the menu lacks a real hero plate to get excited.
Excellent service. highly recommend the sea bass and smoked eel. bitter leave salad is of good balance. improvement needed on: razor shell lose the natural flavor, too salty. raw scallop is a bit bland. raw beef is a bit greasy due to the extra creamy sauce underneath.
One the the 2 restaurants in London to make it to the recent world s top 50 list. Lyle's had been on our list for sometime now. Finding a convenient lunch time reservation, we went to Lyle's in January to see what the fuss was about. Located in Shoreditch in a very nondescript building. The restaurant is not pretentious. A very simple, canteen like feel. The food was brought up one by one, and the chefs could be seen busy in the open kitchen. The restaurant wasn't very full at lunch, but everyone seemed to be very happy with the flavours and the simple presentation of the food. The service was the only reason why I can't give this restaurant a 5 star. It was lacklustre and a bit confused and not very friendly. I don't see why that was, given how empty the restaurant was. All in all, kudos to the chef and their team. But a friendlier service crew would do wonders. I suppose it's the ranking that has made them a bit snooty. Not a pleasant experience, I certainly won't be back anytime soon.
