We decided to visit this pub on St Paddys Day and really enjoyed our visit. There is good ambience, we received great service, there is a wide selection of craft beers available on tap, and the food was very good!I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a place to grab dinner in Listowel. What Lesley Schmidt doesn't like about Plough & Harrow:
New decor is nice, but the new menu is such a let down. We gave the restaurant a good try by going a few times. The platters on the menu are confusing with the items that are offered on them. There is a deep fried version of macaroni which just promotes a heart attack on the plate. The chicken breast with salad was boring and needed seasoning. We tried the $5 pint beer special which offered a variety of local Ontario beers. I ordered the club house sandwich while my husband had the pulled pork, both dishes came with delicious fresh cut fries. The service was fast and everything was quite good. This place seems to be popular among locals who frequent here regularly.
A group of seven of us went to the Grand Opening and really enjoyed having Mill St. and Donnelly's serving us samples of their recent releases. The shared appetizers were also delicious. We always order three of the very reasonably priced boards when we're there and love the local meat, cheese, and breads, as well as the wide selection of craft brews. It's different every time and fun to share with a group of friends. The effort to support local businesses is admirable and worth every penny. This small-town pub has a great feel and is clearly trying to cater to those who want an upscale experience while holding on to the friendly, family-oriented atmosphere they have always had. Definitely going back :)

I shouldn't have to struggle to order something off the menu, and that is the problem. Even when the food has been served, it is not outstanding. Just disappointed.
I must confess to being a little surprised by how absolutely delicious my meal was at this little pub. I knew nothing about the place, but decided to stop in for a late lunch/early supper. There was only one other patron in the place and myself at the time. Staff was extremely friendly and quite knowledgable about the menu. At first glance I thought that the place seemed a bit overpriced for food... but once the meal came I quickly changed my mind. From the vegetables to the sweet potato wedges (probably the best I've ever had) the meal was so good. The portion size was generous and I left an extremely happy customer. Will definitely be back to try it again with my family.
I grew up in Listowel but now only return to visit family. With a dozen or so places to eat in Listowel, the options are mostly fast food or average chain and independent restaurants. This location used to be the Anchor Pub for years. I went for lunch today and was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was great, with music playing at the perfect volume and a friendly waitress. Although the menu prices seemed a bit high at first, the food was well worth it. I had the Canadian burger with pub fries, which was delicious and generously portioned. My wife enjoyed her cream of tomato soup as well. The selection of craft beer was extensive, and the waitress helped me pick a great light ale. This restaurant is a great addition to Listowel and is now my top choice when in town. Highly recommended.
