A lovely restaurant away from the city centre. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere in the restaurant is convivial. I would have rated the food excellent but unfortunately the dish of scallops and black pudding was lukewarm. Also my spaghetti alle vongole could have been served with less celery, more shells removed from the plate and a hint of chilli would have given the dish a bit more oomph! However it was... My wife and I eat out 100 plus times a year. It takes a special restaurant to excite either one of us. We are usually very critical and are reluctant to highly score most establishments. This is a very unpretentious place with a zero ambiance factor. The cuisine is very good and the service as well. My wife had the cold tomato soup ( gazpacho ) which was creamier than the US version. It also included ricotta ravioli. My starter was veal carpaccio with a zucchini tartar. Delicious! For a main course my wife chose a "cote de couchon" which we soon found out was a pork chop. This was a 10 ounce chop served with a red cabbage chutney drizzled over the top. The side for this dish was a seasoned couscous. My main was a very rare fresh tuna steak that tasted like it had been caught this morning. It was served with sliced sautéed celery and a very minimal melted cheese topping. Very unusual but tasty. On top of this we shared a bottle of wonderful southern France rosé. We finished off the meal with the gourmet coffee dessert which consisted of a tasting of five desserts with beverages. I splurged and also ordered a Mandarin Napolean which is an orange flavored liqueur. This service was delivered by a very customer focused duo of Karen and Clelia. They clearly understand the concept of good customer service. If we come back to Lille this will be on our list of " must return to" spots.
Wellbalanced menu for foodies. I think there was a max of 5 dishes, butt they all sounded delicious. Price / quality on the spot. The beef angus was ridiculously tasty...
This bistro has one great advantage over other restaurants in Lille in that it is open on a Monday evening when so few others are. It is small and unpretentious and although it has a limited menu the items on it were varied and all looked attractive and the ones we chose were all tasty and well cooked. We arrived ludicrously early for our booking and we were told that although food was not yet available we were welcome to have a drink at the bar or at our table which allowed us to relax after a busy day in Lille. Although the blackboard menu was in French (naturally!) the waitress had a handwritten English translation, always useful for some of the more obscure culinary terms. The service was friendly and helpful, even towards the end when the restaurant was almost full. Prices were reasonable and at the right level for this style of restaurant. THe wine list was short and average but was well enough priced to allow me to choose the most expensive white wine on the list, a decent Burgundy at 30€. This place would be worth a visit on any evening, but on a Monday definitely a great choice.
Did a little research on Tripadvisor before travelling to Lille and liked the reviews of La Consigne, so booked a table for last Saturday evening. Attractively decorated and furnished, the service was very good, friendly, attentive and helpful in translating the menu for us.The food was beautifully prepared abnd presented, we both had 3 courses and a fine bottle of wine which came in at 94 euros, and I considered this to be good value.I would recommend this restaurant and would suggest booking in advance at weekend as it was busy on the Saturday.
