Very friendly staff and helpful. We had a lovely steak cooked to perfection. My only complaint was charging for sparkling water and not leaving it on the table. We had a bottle of wine which was left at the bar so every time we wanted to refill our glass we had to request it. It would have been easier to leave the water and the wine on the table for us to refill. View all feedback.
Being a local, we love visiting Mr Grubb however we usually do it in summer when we can sit outside under the silver birches. Read in our local paper about the special offer for Thursdays and Fridays in July for a two course meal - roast pork belly with apple and rhubarb crumble for dessert. Two courses for $25.00 sounded great. Now you have to arrive early as there are limited numbers for the special and there is a no reservation policy. The meal was great - fabulous prom belly with roast spuds and pumpkin, peas and broccoli, gravy and sauces. The crumble was divine with lots of custard. Excellent, non-intrusive service, fabulous wine - we went for the Oakdene sav Blanc. This special is only on for July so get in quick!
Mr Grubb is our favourite place for lunch. The food is wonderful as is the friendly service. There is a wonderful varied menu to choose from that will suit everybody, even the kiddies.
Located on the Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria the Mr Grubb Café is an excellent restaurant in its own right & for those whom choose to check-in as guests of the Oakdene Vineyards Accommodation you will be treated to a freshly cooked breakfast as part of your room tariff.[Dishing the Dirt on Mr Grubb]: My husbands selection of the “Brekkie Pizza” impressed with its generous serve & variety of toppings. These included Pork Sausage, Bacon, One Free Range Egg, Baby Spinach, Tomato, French Brie & Field Mushrooms. Describing the dish as absolutely delicious he would not hesitate to order this again if the opportunity presented. Not as culinary adventurous so early in the day I opted for the intriguing "Dr Marty's Crumpets with Pennyroyal Raspberry Farm Preserves & Warrnambool Butter. Their centres had a fluffiness I found reminiscent of pancakes that was combined perfectly with just the right amount of golden crunch like we had on the crumpets Dad used to make for us as kids. My one & only complaint was that two was certainly not enough![Beverages]: A wide range of drinks are available to choose from to accompany your meals. We went with Cappuccino's for our coffee fix along with a cold one from the 'Noah's' selection. Both of the items were refreshing & are recommended.[Juice: Apple, Carrot & Ginger - Smoothie: Apple, Peach, Kiwi & Mango]** Conclusion:Having previously dined at Mr Grubb for dinner we were already huge fans & happy to highly recommend this eatery to our fellow travellers. When booking into the Guesthouse we hadn't realised that a freshly cooked breakfast at the Café was now included in the room tariff so when we found out we were stunned by the added bonus.Whether you decide to try out Mr Grubbs either as accommodation guests or as a stand alone stop for breakfast, lunch or dinner then we hope that you experience the friendly staff, relaxing surroundings and delightful food that has us already looking forward to our next visitThank you for reading this review, we hope that it has been helpful. We are staying at Oakdene for the weekend and breakfast is included in our package. If it wasn't I'd happily pay for it is excellent. The staff are friendly and helpful, the coffee is great. Go to Mr Grubb for brekky its great.
My husband and I had been wanting to visit Mr Grubb for a very long time and on our first child free night in a very long time we made it there and we are so glad we did. The place was almost full, only a couple of tables to spare. We decided on the 3 courses for $30pp. WOWThe quality of each course has definitely filtered through from Marty's.Entree was Caesar salad, garlic & mozzarella bread & crumbed calamari served with aioli. All 3 were delicious. There are over a dozen choices for main and we decided on a steak each. I had the rump. It was so flavoursome.Hubby had the porterhouse with blue cheese & mushroom sauce equally as tasty as the rump.We had them with chips but you can get mash if you prefer. Dessert was a platter of churros with chocolate sauce, strawberries & vanilla bean ice cream. Topped off with a lovely bottle of their NV Sparkling. The night was great. The service was exceptional.Very professional. Cannot wait to return.Amazing quality meals.
