Exceptional cuisine served with an unexpected continental flair. Come early and start your adventure with a fine wine in the upstairs library lounge. We will return often. View all feedback.
What OpenTable Diner doesn't like about Horned Dorset:
Fine dining and a very special treat. We loved it, spent well over 2 hours and savored every moment. Delightful service, warm ambiance, and beautifully prepared food. Expensive, and worth every penny. View all feedback.
Nice night.. their clearly not ready for prime time. Menu/Wine list limited. Especially, the wine list.. I’d bring my own. next time. Was good to be there.. need to give them time to return to their incredibly top shelf experience. Hope next summer we’re there…. Need to support them… thanks for a nice night!
We stayed at the inn 3 years ago and had a wonderful experience and a very lovely breakfast. We received a gift certificate for dinner from a friend as we raved about the place. Since Covid had shut everything done we were just able to come for dinner. We enjoyed the Salmon appetizer very much, were disappointed in the Prosciutto tart too much cheese and the prosciutto was not flavorful. My husbands Old fashion was weak. The peach martini was delicious and the glasses of wine were also lovely. The Rack of Lamb was disappointing too much crust and not a lot of lamb on the racks. We had been told so many good things about the restaurant and unfortunately that night it did not live up to the reputation.
If you find yourself even remotely in the area, you should visit the Horned Dorset. It something out of the past. You feel as though you are dining in the 1800 in the historic (and beautiful) building. The full French service never disappoints and the food is always top notch. I could quibble on wine list or some minor preference points, but the overall experience of the Horned Dorset (and it is an experience not just a meal), truly cannot be beat.
We had the special Thanksgiving dinner...it was fantastic. The wait staff was perfect, attentivebut not obtrusive. We'll definitely be back!
The Horned Dorset is an upstate NEW York gem and should be a stop on any afficionado of fine food's itinerary. An elegant, primarily French menu is supplemented daily with a series of special dishes featuring local ingredients and/or unique presentation. When we were there Saturday there was a butternut squash and apple soup, a whole Maine lobster out of the shell and served Portuguese style with mussels and clams in a tomato broth and a main course of veal medallions garnished with fois gras. The special dessert was a blackberry souffle served with a couple of sauces. The service is impecable, attentive without being overbearing. The wine list is extensive. We will be back!
