Beached Whale Restaurant Bar

Designer food. That means a big plate with a tiny bit of food arranged artistically. We had duck, which was delicious. However, we ended up going to another restaurant afterwards to have a nice filling pizza! I know, we are Philistines, but that's what holidays are for.

Granted it was winter but this restaurant was never open when we were there. Not a huge deal but there are no restaurants open past 5pm.

Seafood chowder.... What's better than that?! I loved this place! I went to New Zealand a year ago and got the pleasure of coming here. The coffee and the food was absolutely delicious. If I ever get lucky enough to go again, I'll definitely come here!!!

We enjoyed the 'catch of the day ' today, which was white fish on seasonal vegetables with a little sauce hollandaise. The fish and the vegetables were cooked nicely and were of great taste. It is nice to sit outside of the restaurant and have dinner. We will come back.

When we recently were staying at the Kaiteriteri Beach Camp and happen to notice this restaurant next door to it. It sat back from the main road and was not that readily visible. We read the reviews on another website and found them to be good, but mixed. We didn 't know what to expect, but we decided to give it a try. It so far exceeded expectations! I had their fish and chips and a salad, which were excellent, but my wife 's catch of the day white fish with shrimp, chutney and potatoes had the most wonderful and complimentary flavors. It was truly exceptional! If we lived in the area, we would be frequent visitors to this excellent restaurant.
