We recently dined at this restaurant and were pleasantly surprised by how clean and fresh it was. The manager, a middle-aged gentleman, was very accommodating and seated us. We were provided with menus and a specials card. The overall experience was excellent; the food came out promptly, was hot, and delicious. Additionally, the real ale I ordered was perfect. What Zeigh J doesn't like about Merrie Garden:
Not greeted on arrival inspite of place being practically empty. Waited quite a while for drinks, roast dinner came absolutely drenched in gravy, all slopping over the side of the plate and was barely lukewarm. No one came to check our table at all, and when i mentioned to the manager whilst waiting to pay that the meal wasn't all that he never said a word! We had a fantastic family Sunday lunch at the Merrie Gardens, we had a problem with one of the meals, the wonderful Kim replaced it immediately with no fuss, so, everyone happy. The staff are always great, but Kim is exceptional very efficient and knowledgeable about the menu and we loved the banter : The pies are the best and the roasts excellent!

They recently changed the menu here, we sampled the pork belly and lamb shank and it was absolutely amazing. The items have changed for the better in our opinion
The restaurant had limited vegetarian options but a kind young man was able to get me egg and chips. The food was nothing special but it was okay. The toilets were clean and the bar staff were pleasant. The coffee was a bit of a short measure in the cup, but overall it was average - not great, but not terrible either.
Lovely setting , great food , friendly staff who were also very knowledgeable about both the food and the wine choices , thoroughly recommend
