Would have put 5 stars but wasn't able to as it's not fully vegan. This place has many vegan options and they are all amazing. I always have a great experience here. All employees are super friendly. The customer service is above and beyond. Everything I've eaten here is fantastic! View all feedback.
What C W doesn't like about Local Foods Upper Kirby:
cute spot with outdoor seating, but just didn’t like what i ordered. power bowl was too salty saucy for my liking. lentils seemed over cooked and paired with the cauliflower rice, the whole dish seemed soggy. the rest of the menu looks delicious, so i plan to come back and try other items View all feedback.
We came here for the poke. They recently changed the recipe so it wasn’t what I was craving. We enjoyed the chimichanga sandwich best. Next the crunchy chicken sandwich. We also ordered the vegan queso that came with vegan taco meat. Excellent. The watermelon was phenomenal. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The staff and even the other customers. Everyone is so nice. It’s so great to be back in Texas. ?
I am disappointed to write this review. I have been a loyal fan of Local Foods for quite some time, but it appears that they have recently fallen into the common trap that restaurants face when trying to maintain their popularity. While the food initially impressed me with familiar recipes using high-quality ingredients and a healthier approach, it now seems that they have resorted to adding more salt, fat, and sugar to enhance the flavor. For example, the truffle egg salad sandwich used to feature truffle mayo mixed with the eggs, but now it seems that the bread is slathered with an excessive amount of mayo, resulting in a sandwich that tastes more like mayo than egg salad. While the mayo is delicious, I expected an egg salad sandwich, not a mayo-infused one.

Never a disappointment for lunch! I love swinging by local foods because I know I can get a consistently good meal that keeps me full without feeling so heavy and sluggish afterwards. I stopped by here for a quick lunch bite and had to get one of my favorite sandwiches, the gulf seafood sandwich. It's a shrimp and crab mixture with some pickled veggies. It normally comes on a ciabatta bun, but I swapped that out for a pretzel bun because their pretzel buns are to die for. I've literally gone in to just by a pack of their pretzel buns before because I was craving it so much. Your sandwich comes with 2 sides or the option of a soup. I opted for the 2 sides and chose the Tuscan kale salad and the couscous, both of which I love. Their food just feels fresh, light, and flavorful. I will say that for lunch, it can be on a pricey side for a sandwich- running between $15-$18, but I do enjoy the food and am willing to splurge every once in a while The service is great. It is a walk up counter to order and then seat yourself. The staff members were super friendly and nice and will bring the food out to you and bus the tables. It's a super casual vibe, and while you can come for dinner as well since they serve entrees and alcohol, I prefer it as a lunch place since their sandwiches are the draw for me.
I’m here all the time, love their food and the seasonal additions. I appreciate the fans outside in this Texas heat!Food: 5/5
