It was a quiet Wednesday evening when I visited this restaurant. Jenny took great care of me, serving me a gin martini, fresh James River oysters, and a crab cake. I was pleasantly surprised that my total came to only $35, which is quite a bargain for the area near HdG. I highly recommend this place. While there aren't any views to speak of, it doesn't really matter! View all feedback.
What Darren W doesn't like about Bayou:
The food was consistently good, although it could be a bit bland at times. However, after having to listen to the owner ranting about giving her employees sick leave and claiming they'd abuse it while we waited to be seated, we decided not to return. We believe that anyone who treats their employees with such disrespect doesn't deserve our patronage. View all feedback.
This was the worst seafood sampler I’ve ever had in my life. Bland and gross. The only reason I gave it two stars was because the cream of crab soup was good and the staff was nice. We were there for an early dinner but still, I think I know why the only other people in there we’re elderly because they can’t taste as well!
I came to the Bayou restaurant with my family on a Friday around 4:30 pm. I guess since it was still early it was DEAD. It was one of those situations where I got there and thought Shoot, did I not check the hours?? Thinking maybe it was even closed. We walked in and got seated immediately. The decor is very old and outdated. The waitress came over and asked for our drink selections we didn 't have drink menus on our table and I had to ask for one. The waitress looked surprised when I asked (probably cause I look young), but why wouldn 't you have a drink menu ready? That 's money right there! I decided to order the Awesome Potato which is a potato stuffed with crab imperial and cheese. Ummm, yes. It was pretty good. I felt like our food took awhile to come out, but they give you rolls and veggies to munch on. The potato itself was huge and you get two sides, so there was a lot of food. I will say, I LOVE their fries. My favorite type of fries are those crispy fries that almost taste like they 're double breaded. It was probably one of my favorite parts of the meal. Overall, I felt like it was quantity over quality. When we were closing out and waiting for our checks my family all paid with cards (we were going dutch) and I paid with cash. They were closed out and done with their cards and I was waiting for my change for another 5 7 minutes even though I saw my waitress doing other things in the dining room. Everything was okay, but I 'm not in any rush to go back.
A diverse menu and everything was great. A+ on the coconut shrimp, crab cake and orange roughy. Sides were perfect complements. Service was exceptional, despite our arriving at closing time. We now plan to make this a regular dinner stop Highly recommend!
The crab cakes are rich and full of bountiful lumps of crabmeat! They are well seasoned and come with cocktail and tartar sauce. Love the house dressing with veggies and salad it's like a creamy house made peppercorn ranch. The cream of crab soup was missing a certain je ne sais quoi. The staff was very friendly and attentive. It was free dessert night when we went, but I could have gone without the dessert not my favorite. BUT the amount of food you get for the price you pay is quite reasonable!
Love this place. First time in the area went two nights in a row. Introduced my assistant to their pies. She was hooked. Next time we were back in town we went back. Anytime we're in the area we will be here. Broiled crab cake is my favorite. However a very good steak also.
