We have to spend a very nice evening, the kitchen is excellent and flexible when someone has an allergy. The service is also great it was really funny. I'm looking forward to a next visit. View all feedback.
What SMKN doesn't like about Zum Alten Lotsenhaus:
We had to wait almost 2 hours for our main court. Only one person of our group of 4 had an appetizer, but even with it the waiting times were too long. This was slightly bridged only by greeting from the kitchen with a little bit too little bread and a small portion of very delicious tomato pustos. The appetizer (Beef Tartar) was very good. The main dishes were beautifully dressed, tastefully OK, but not remarkable a... View all feedback.
I don't review that often, but we had our engagement party here with around 70 people, and I have only one thing to say about this place.WAUW what a amazing place.super service and extremely good food. Even for so many people. I will come here as offend...as possible
Great location, very good service, tasty food but sometimes outsize portions you should come hungry or choose carefully ! Zum Alten Lotsenhaus is one of the oldest restaurants in Hamburg (established as an eatery in 1801 it was originally a pilots' house), and is...charming inside as well as out on the terrace where there is a lovely view of the Elbe and any passing ships. The menu, available in English as well as in German, is relatively short (especially the appetisers perhaps to leave room for the mains), and uses excellent ingredients with a tendency towards hearty food rather than fine dining. The delicious whole plaice is pan fried and served with yummy small brown shrimps and bacon seasoned potatoes, but could use a little sauce to bring the dish together. The halibut by contrast was a tad overcooked but had an excellent, rich accompanying sauce. These dishes were not finished by those who ordered them because they were so large even though two of us just had small side salads to start. The residents of Hamburg clearly have healthy appetites. The trio of three seafoods on the other hand came in a more manageable portion for one of our party and was polished off. There are beers on draft but a restricted choice, and a reasonable wine list which is regrettably a bit short on German offerings although some can be tried by the glass which is helpful. Prices are reasonable. We failed to make dessert, which includes apple strudel if you're still feeling peckish at the end of the meal, but did have some very good mint tea. The small front of house staff did a great job when we went. As far as logistics go, the restaurant is a short (five minutes) but agreeable walk from the drop off point for cars. If you're returning by taxi I would suggest asking the restaurant to book one as it's not a much transited area, particularly on a quiet Sunday night. There is a bus service but otherwise it's a bit of a hike back into town.
Super nice location! Come there for a sunset ... awesome. Nice views to river Elbe. Food and drinks are very nice, service is good.
We have brought our friends from Finland to this place, as we wanted to treat them with some delicious local foods (with vegetarian options.) first, the terrace is beautiful and with views of the harbour, I would be hard pressed to one. nicer place to find in the city where to eat an evening meal on the hot summer evening. but when it comes to service and eating, I feel that there are certainly some room for improvement. the service was a bit chaotic (brot dives came only after we got our appetizers and slow ashes, but fair, it was certainly animated night for them given the good weather. the food was somewhere between average and ok. I had scholle (plaice finkenwerder style, most local dish of all; it was okay, but it came with a side of speck kartoffel salat, which was served cold. that is perhaps as it should be, but I think it does not do this meal justice. spargel risotto with some fishing on the top (that someone else on our table would have been a better choice. the dessert was also somehow uninspiring, I can strawberry cut and add whipped cream and a few mint leaves too home. other people at the table were happier with their cream bubble. all in all, in this price category I might have expected more worth (better service, above average eating for money
Beautiful terrace at the very best. good quality and fresh ingredients.
