What Art H doesn't like about Sunnyside Restaurant & Sunnyside Too:
I have not been to this spot for many years, but decided to stop for breakfast the other day. I was okay with the food, and actually my wife loved her vegetable eggs Benedict, BUT, the service was really bad. We were shown to a table by a girl carrying a pot of coffee, but were not offered any. A couple who arrived after us, got coffee and water right away, but we were not even offered water. I had to ask for coffee... View all feedback.
We have eaten at Sunnyside often. Our latest visit was disappointing. My wife and I both ordered breakfast dishes. Food took about 45 minutes to arrive even though the restaurant was no more than about a quarter full. Both dishes were less than fresh, lacking in flavour, somewhat dry. The server was overly busy, doing her best, but unable to pay adequate attention to detail. The whole place was quite grubby. All plexiglass dividers had been taken down. An unwrapped straw for our water was handed casually with bare working hands right where the mouth goes. The windowsill right where we sat was thick with dirt. Washroom floors were noticeably sticky with shoes sticking to them. The entrance door area was very grubby. This was all way below past servings and standards. Significant attention is called for.
We visited this location for breakfast on a Wednesday morning. It is a fairly busy location with a constant flow of customers. We were promptly seated and provided with menus and of course, coffee. The menu has a variety with something for everyone. Although being busy, our server took our order very quickly. The food soon arrived and it was piping hot and prepared as ordered. Our server checked in multiple times and coffee was refilled each time. We would highly recommend this location for a hearty breakfast with great service.

I certainly would recommend it if you enjoy home style meals.
5 of us went to have lunch today after our son graduated from university. We sat at a table in a relatively calm atmosphere. The waitress was Darlene. She eventually took out orders and three asked for coffee, the rest asked for water. One person got water. Two of us got 3/4 cup of coffee and the rest got nothing. We asked several times for coffee refill and remaining water. She eventually brought food and laid most of it beside me to hand to other people. Still no coffee or waters. Food was great. We all loved the food. After third asking two of us got a half refill on our coffee, 5 minutes later the three water came when we were 80% through our meal. She forgot some side orders, no big deal. Other waitresses ignored us for coffee and water because we were at Darlene’s table. They would walk by with coffee pots. The place needs a real makeover. The cooks did well, the food was good. Darlene and the service were the worst i have had in ten years. After she brought the bill she asked us if we wanted a coffee refill. Like WTF. She seemed to not be in the restaurant for half of the time. Just disappeared. Each one of us did not discuss it during the meal but all agreed outside that she was the worst server we have ever had. The bill for lunch was $125 which is not bad for 5 people to have pancakes. If we ever go back we will bring our own drinks and sit in a different part of the restaurant
I eat occasionally there with my wife and enjoy the food. However, this time we waited at the door a good five minutes to be greeted and seated. Service other than that was great. We both had a turkey dinner special at lunchtime. While tasty, the food was luke warm with the potatoes bordering cold. I sent my meal back to be warmed. While the waitress apologized, I had to send my meal back for the same reason on the previous visit for the same reason. Clearly they have a serving problem. I feel for them during these challenging times but properly served food is a must.
