We have chosen this restaurant for dinner because it was really close to our hotel and also because it seemed to have fish dishes what was exactly what we were looking for. we were quite disappointed when we read the menu: they were just a type of fresh fish (and from one that they had only one unit left), there was derées, only one with fish and in the main dishes there was no fish at all, the only available main dish with fish was the bouillabaisse, but we found that it was necessary to reserve it (it would be nice to write it on the big night) for the price we have paid, they can have a great dinner in other restaurants not so far away, really, wouldn't go back or guess someone to go there, eating was good, but that's so not enough.
We had a nice dinner with fresh fish cooked in the hooven. dessert very good the dinner was nice and really good. the place is beautiful under a dripping tree. the price ok for fresh fish, approx. € per person, including appetizers, drinks, desserts and coffee.
We have come to le menestrel. my wife and I had a lunch menu for eur I had a bark with cheese sauce, green beans and roasted kartoffels: excellent, sufficiently large and beautiful presented. my wife had a piece. of calf with marinated red tweepers, also very good and quite unusual. desert: amazing crème bruleé. environment very quiet, shaded and visited by natives. service very polite. my only criticism: opening times on google advertised were wrong. we wanted to come to lunch before we were closed at the opening hour of google and the place.
We went to Le Menestrel based on the reviews on Tripadvisor, so knew the location was not the greatest but expected good food and service. To summarize our dinner: very poor atmosphere, average to poor food, slow service (though others were clearly served faster). The...location is poor, there is nothing cute about the low-end back of a strip mall overlooking low-end housing. There is a cover with vines, but that does not make a huge difference. The chairs and tables are very cheap plastic, what one expects at a low end diner or truck stop, not a restaurant. Our service was super slow. They were not busy on the night. Others did seem to be served more quickly, but for a small, half-empty place, waiting minutes for a salad is ridiculous. Food was variable. The fresh fish was fine, but nothing special. Basically, they bought fresh fish at the market and grilled it and gave one side. No sauces or special spices, and it was a fair amount of work since the fish was not cleaned. I made just as good fish by buying at the local fish store the daily catch and cooking in our apartment with olive oil and lemon. The salad was fine, but boring. One type of green leaves, basic vinaigrette, some slices of the local jambon. The children's menu was plain bad. Old, reheated lasagna (multiple times from how rubbery the cheese was) and freezer-burnt store-bought ice cream. First time my son did not finish chocolate ice cream. They offer a free digestive at the end of the meal. If the price was a third less, maybe would say it was fine, but for the price, poor location and slow service, just not worth the risk. There are much better places in Porticcio.
