We were after something quick and we got it. Food was out at lightning speed. When I went to pay I was amazed at how cheap it was. Thank you for a quick cheap and cheerful meal. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Shifu Dumpling Express:
Had lunch with kids today. Dumplings we're ok but nothing amazing. Soups were watery and broth not overly tasty. Singapore noodles ok but heavy on curry flavor. Every time I try somewhere other than Hu Tong Dumpling bar I am disappointed. View all feedback.
Shifu is the best Chinese food in st kilda. friendly staff and great location. fresh, good value and overall delicious. I love the noodle, big yamsjagd, and the szechuan is one!
I've been on my way for 5 years! best dumplings and even if I have other dishes I've never been disappointed. service is also excellent and the girl is very friendly! love this place!
Seeking out dumplings in the heart of St Kilda on a cold Saturday night demanded for something quick, quality and not too hard on the wallet. Shifu reviews reasonably well and as such snagged my reservation. Coming in at 8.30pm I would of thought this place would of been busy, alas, we were the only diners (alarm bells starting to go off for at this point). First impressions; a restaurant that holds approximately 40 patrons; flashing coloured Christmas tree lights behind the booth to create a form of atmosphere and the bar at the front. The booth seats have seen better days, vinyl coming off. The wine and beer menu is adequate; prices are quite reasonable. The food menu was quite large and pricing once again quite reasonable. Food ordered; Ginger Prawn Dumplings BBQ Pork Buns Chicken Prawn Dumplings The Ginger Prawn smelled delicious. Unfortunately that is where it ended. The texture was slimy and unfortunately it lacked flavour/seasoning. The pork buns were not light and fluffy but quite dense and whilst the pork was delicious there sauce was lacking and the filling itself was lacking in quantity too, such a shame. The chicken and prawn dumplings were very good though. Well seasoned and a decent amount of filling. The restrooms; enough for the amount of seats available (male/female). The male restroom was downright disgusting. Other than the toilet itself I don 't think any other aspect had been cleaned for months. Service; considering we were the only patrons in the restaurant, he dishes still took 15min to be served. Not the quickest around. Parking was street/sidestreet or you can park in the Belford St car park. SUMMARY Hit and miss. Extensive menu and it 's a cheap eat outing. The place feels dirty and the food is average plenty of other dumpling places around that serve better quality cuisine at a similar price. Service Efficiency. 3/5 Atmosphere/Ambiance. 3/5 Range of Wine/Beer. 3/5 Quality of Food. 2/5 Price Range (Low, Medium, High): Low/Medium Dress Code (Casual, Smart Casual, Formal): Casual Can you book a table if required: Yes Free Wi Fi?: No Do they accept AMEX/Diners Club Cards?: No Value for money. 3/5 Availability of Restrooms. 4/5 Parking Availability. 4/5 (Belford Street car park, 3min walk) Total 22/40
Would recommend the Shumai , Sanghai Pork Dumpling , Peking Duck and Sang Choy Bow , which are all delicious. The service is excellent and the restaurant is opposite the tram 96 stop on Acland Street.
I should have been more careful. Every restaurant along Acland Street was busy busy and Shifu had only one person dining inside. But I really wanted Chinese food so went in. Took one of dozens of empty seats. A waitress came and flopped a menu in front of me. I decided what to have but the waitress was by then behind the bar with her head down. I called out. She came and took my order. Food was OK. Mediocre but good size portions. After I finished I saw the waitress was again head down so I called out that I wanted my bill. She brought it and waddled off. I prepared to pay but again she was behind the bar with head down. Luckily I was wearing soft shoes so I could walk silently to the bar. The girl had her head down and was engrossed in her phone. She saw me and was a bit shocked, but I paid and walked out. Did not leave a tip. Definitely a place to avoid. I did not have the stomach problems which another reviewer experienced, but 100% I will not go there again.
