Well, you might think bacon and eggs are just bacon and eggs, but this week, Chef Chlyn raised the bar with a perfect plate of food. The eggs...perfect....bacon crisp and not greasy...hashbrowns..fresh potatoes (not previously frozen like most breakfast service on Gabriola) and perfectly seasoned and deliciously crisp...even the toast rocked!!! Thank you for such a yummy brunch experience! View all feedback.
What Charles Pinto doesn't like about The Sunset Lounge Dining Room:
I ate dinner here on July 11 and was very sick the next day. I ended up being sick for 6 days. I notified the restaurant in case anyone else got sick and they seemed apologetic and offered to refund my bill but never followed through. They aren't returning my emails anymore now. View all feedback.
We have dined at Surf restaurant before, but unfortunately, during our recent visit, there were staff shortages which resulted in a limited menu. The three of us ordered seafood chowder, but it arrived at the table cold and only at room temperature. While the presentation was beautiful, our server did not offer to take the dishes back to warm them up and seemed upset when we mentioned the issue. Eventually, a second person came and offered to warm the chowder after consulting with the chef. Overall, it was a disappointing experience. It's important to note that due to staffing and supply issues, there may be changes and stresses at the restaurant.
We were in a lodge in the lodge, so decided to eat here instead of cooking. the staff was helpful and attentive and we ended up enjoying the view and the sound of the ozean on the outside. the menu seems to be limited. Now I suggest checking it first. I had the surf salad that was green was local and you could really taste the difference. my man had the burger and it looked good and he really enjoyed it. so we really enjoyed a relaxing dinner with the sun set. the interior of the restaurant has a lot of character and I can imagine it is cozy and fun place to be in rain or cold weather.
As long-term seasonal residents of gabriola we try to support local businesses wherever possible. when it comes to restaurants, we have lived a life full of beginnings and unfortunately many stolper. this evening was a disappointment at the surf. the food selection was mostly pub tea .burger and fries etc. we chose the Pasta option smoked lachs fattyuccine. taste was excellent; portions were small and the salmon was very difficult to find. the prices were vancouver levels. my friend found only a piece of salmon in the whole plate mostly tomato. that was after we waited for 50 minutes (yes, it was busy and obviously underoccupied) after our escapes were delivered, we were almost finished before someone controlled the fresh pfeffer or we brought us after the delivery of the courts. some warm brot would have helped. also our waitress had to hunt for the bill. could do with some improvements!
Restaurant with good food and a beautiful view. ate the pack, it would eat definitiw again. is worth a visit! Thanks for eating well.
Open mic night on Thursday evenings from 5:30-8:30 at the Surf dining area, outdoors, is quite a noisy affair. The music, if you can call it that, is mostly sung by amateurs who are far from being musically inclined. It can be described as caterwauling and is consistently loud every Thursday evening. However, Friday evenings feature more talented musicians who provide a more pleasant dining experience. If you prefer to enjoy your meal without deafening noise, it is best to avoid dining there on Thursdays. Additionally, recent diners have mentioned that the food is not very good.
