Chef Fred prepared an amazing rack of lamb for us; it was delicious, juicy, and incredibly tender. We savored every bite and even licked the bones clean. The French onion soup was authentic and delightful, with perfectly crunchy embedded bread. It was truly the best. The escargot was also outstanding, bursting with flavor, and the cremolette was excellent as well. We’ve found our favorite spot in the charming town of... View all feedback.
What Scott Tapp doesn't like about Cafe Lafayette:
Was very hopeful based on Yelp reviews. Talk about disappointment. Prices do NOT reflect the quality of the food. The service was the only redeeming factor to this place. Save your time and go elsewhere. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $30–50 Food: 1 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3 View all feedback.
My husband made a reservation a week in advance. This place is a house turn into a very charming restaurant. I had a rack of lamb, 4 lamb chops it came with mushed potatoes asparagus and sliced carrots. Everything was perfectly cooked. Absolutely delicious !! The dish itself was $48. My husband had beef stew.. yeah that's probably not the right name is French. My little one had pasta with garlic bread. I had a little bite of everything we had that night it was delicious. The dessert was amazing a crepe with a mix of warm berries and ice cream. French cuisine is pricey but worth of trying. Nice experience!
Something has changed. Our group came for Sunday brunch and found the place completely dead. We were one of a few tables at best time. The menu seemed extremely expensive, $32 for every item, for BREAKFAST food. Sneaky 18% Satisfaction for 6 or more people added as a service fee?. $6.50 penalty if you share a meal. The business runs well below, and these prices and shady fees leave a bad taste in our mouth. $150 for two people for brunch?? Sadly used to love the place and everything else was fine, but won?t back under this management.
Cafe Lafayette serves American and French cuisine in a pleasant atmosphere. You can dine indoors or outdoors in their open terrace with brickwork and parasols. The menu is divided into appetizers and entrees and seems to turn. The food is all well prepared: the grilled shrimps with garlic is an excellent appetizer, their steaks are good quality and seasoned well. Service is polite. My Quibble with Cafe Lafayette and why I give them three stars is their prices. While the parts are reasonable for the Entrees themselves, I do not see them as about $50 per person and that is without wine or other drinks. The appetizer, although delicious, should not be $25 for six shrimps. Here too, the food is usually very well made and it is nice to have a good restaurant here in the Exeter area, but I would not return here after their prices.
What a pleasant surprise to have French cuisine in the Central Valley and also cooked by a legitimate Frenchman! It was a pleasure meeting the man responsible for such a delicious dinner. My husband and I enjoyed every aspect of the restaurant; atmosphere, service and food! All excellent, a beautiful culinary experience when that is what you are looking for in the picturesque city of Exeter. Merci chef pour la nourriture fantastique, mes compliments à vous et à votre femme pour l'excellent service !???
Went to have dinner when every other restaurant in Exeter was packed. We tried this place before but they waiters were very pretentious and didn?t t help at all?.but because Monet had no room we decided to give this place another chance. We walked up the restaurant at 7:45. The sign said they closed at 8:30. The waiter told us the kitchen was closed even thought they were just bringing dinner out to some people we know. Said they were slow so we?re closing up early. Sorry we will never be back to experience you. Guess there is a reason every other place in Exeter is packed and you had no customers. Really irritating.
