Hmmm, same name-but in old Rathskeller location on Quadra. Owner (I assume) greeted us warmly and informed us that this was authentic Mexican "no burritos etc here", all items made in house. What a great experience my husband and I had here! Colourful, bright restaurant, authentic music and super friendly staff.
We had a date night dinner at la Tortilla Mexicana location on Quadra. I had walked by a few weeks ago and the smells emanating out were amazing. I walked in and grabbed a menu for later. We had pina coladas to start off the long weekend right. Like many have noted, the owner Ricardo came over and gave us the wonderful spiel about the food. The menu is not vast, which means that they focus on doing things right. We had a chorizo and potato empanda to start and it was great. I ended up using all of the salsa, which was tomatilla based and likely too spicy for my sweety. I ordered the chicken taquitos with red sauce (can't remember the exact name) without the cabbage around it. If you don't like cabbage, let them know. My sweety ordered the tacos with the chorizo and potato filling. We knew that this would be enough food for dinner and did not opt for the rice and beans. We were sharing our food and going to walk around more and didn't need to take food home. Yes, the rice and beans are extra, which didn't bother us. The food was delicious. It was flavorful and made to order. I am not a big fan of the type of cheese used in the region of Mexico that the owners are from so I asked for less. Overall, we had a wonderful visit and I'll be back. Now, as for the decor, yes there could be some tlc here and there, but I rather have the food great than everything on the walls look perfect.
