It w... read more We arrived in Elvas with the car temp. guage showing 44c! We'd travelled from Salamanca in Spain with every intention of exploring this UNESCO listed town. It was just too hot. So as soon as we could, we popped into this restaurnat which had delightfully cool a/c - thank you for your a/c.Because Portugal is one hour behind Spain, we probably ate earlier than most - yet the restaurant had a steady turn over of tables, including a family just in for drinks.The food is local, Portugese and very interesting. The waiter took his time to try and explain dishes to us in his best English/Spanish (we have no Portugese other than obrigado - thank you) and both he and his partner were attentive throughout.My wife had grilled atlantic cod and I had pork feather - both were delicious.It took a while to find the restaurnat in the narrow streets of the old town, but it's worth the search (ask at your hotel for a map).

Due to that the lunch was extremely noisy but it was not the restaurant fault.What was in their hands, food and service, was very good.The price was a pleasant surprise.

The gentlem... read more We really enjoyed our lunch in A Coluna. It’s an inviting and traditional restaurant and we felt very welcome even though we don’t speak Portuguese. The gentleman who looked after us was lovely. There was a good choice of food and the dishes we chose (squid and pork) were very tasty. We also enjoyed desserts, a glass of wine and coffee, all of which were very good value.

Friendly staff, despite their limited English and our limited Portuguese. Food was simple but good grilled meat, fries and salad. Very reasonably priced.

There was us and one other couple who were not local the evening we dined there. The food is simple but fresh and well cooked. The seafood rice we shared was fantastic. The €8 bottle of Rose was great value and the whole bill was only €62. Excellent value. We were served by two older gentleman who were lovely and the service could not be faulted.
