What Mac Thali's doesn't like about Boualouang:
I don't understand why this restaurant has such high ratings. I visited on a Saturday night and it took nearly 30 minutes to be seated and place my order (even though there were vacant tables, so it wasn't fully booked). After waiting another 30 minutes without even receiving a glass of water, I decided to leave. View all feedback.
We were a party of 7 and we all loved our meals. Huge selection too. Staff were friendly We will definitely be back here again soon
A friend of mine said that service is a big part of the dining experience but I tend not to care about the server's attitude or things they say, just as long as I am not waiting. The food came fast despite being told it might be slow because there were 5 of us and they did not expect many people with one cook. I thought about leaving after first coming in because the staff was not welcoming at all and even suggested that maybe I was in the wrong place. That was a bit weird. The food was good overall, the portions were ample as 5 of us ordered 5 dishes and had leftovers. I see almost all other reviews are more than 3 years old, so there may have been changes. The menu was extensive but after eating there, I realized the dishes are meant to be shared not standalone. I ordered Pad Cashew Shrimp and went it came saw that it was basically shrimp in a sauce, no rice or noodle. A third visit would probably go a lot smoother but helpful staff would improve a first visit.

Excellent food and service for a decent price! Both myself and my companion really enjoyed our dishes (green curry with chicken, fish entree respectively) and portions were generous.
My first Thai food experience was here at their previously smaller location in Chinatown over ten years ago. This location is much larger and beautifully decorated. It was great to see Boualuong still in business after the pandemic where many others have not reopen. They are a mom and pop shop who quietly work diligently over the years dishing out some amazing food. Tonight, our group of friends had the privilege to enjoy another great spicy Tom yum soup, original Pad thai without ketchup, delicious green curry and a mango salad. The food was amazing and the portions were generous. They were understaff with only one server but she and the owner were able to service our large group, plus two other large tables with a smile, grace and pride you would find in any South East Asian home. When you walk around chinatown, you know the struggle these restaurant owners are going through. By me choosing to eat at this terrific restaurant despite what is going on in this neighborhood, that should tell you how much I enjoy the experience of eating here.It is a gem for those who recognize this hole in the wall and it was busy as usual here at Boualuong.
