Spencer's Bistro - Edinburgh, City of

Booked a table using Open Table-phoned restaurant to see if I could put time back due to travel issues and was told by hotel SB is in that the bistro was shut that night-birthday meal ruined. Emailed hotel next day-no response.

I had a table reserved at the bistro on December 28th, which I booked online because it indicated that it would be open. However, on the day of my reservation, I mistakenly went to a different place called The Salisbury Arms down the road. I called Spencer's to inform them that I was at the wrong location, only for them to inform me that they were closed. I questioned why I was able to book a table and purchase a voucher on Groupon if they were closed. The woman on the phone insisted that I was mistaken and that their website did not allow for those actions. Fortunately, The Salisbury Arms provided us with excellent hospitality and allowed us to dine there, resulting in a wonderful evening. Once again, I did not dine at Spencer's.

On a frenetic day during Edinburgh Festival, the beer garden at Spencer's was an oasis of calm.

We booked this on the day and were surprised to get a table. Obviously a hidden gem, it deserves to be more popular. The food was excellent and the service impeccable. Wines are reasonably priced and of good quality. We will certainly go back there and will recommend it to friends and family.
