Contribute FeedbackA couple of weeks ago, on a Saturday night, I was in the mood to visit a bar and indulge in at least eight shots of my favorite whiskey, Jameson. I searched for a nearby bar but found that there wasn’t one in Menard, Texas, where my motel was located. The closest option was in Eden, Texas, so I drove there. Upon arriving, I saw the parking lot was bustling, leading me to believe that the bar was lively inside. I got out of my car and approached the entrance, only to find about five men gathered outside. I asked if I was at the right door, and they informed me that I couldn’t go in because Sam's Place was no longer a public bar—it had closed about a year ago. They explained that the music I heard was actually from a birthday party for one of the gentleman’s children taking place inside. I apologized for interrupting and started to turn to leave, but they weren’t having it. Instead, they invited me to stay, offering me a beer since I had come empty-handed, expecting to be at a bar. Before I knew it, a bottle of whiskey appeared, shots were poured, and we ended up chatting for several hours. It turned into a far better evening than I had anticipated, all thanks to the warm-hearted people of Eden, Texas. So, a big thank you to those guys for welcoming me and making me feel right at home!
