This cute little spot is the place to go! I had the fish with a poutine and I was blown away, it was so tasty and you get a large portion. The gentleman that works here, I think he may be the owner, was very friendly and told us all about the hidden river behind the shop. He even walked us over and showed us while our food was cooking. I will definitely be back!! View all feedback.
What Robert M doesn't like about Riverside Fish Chips:
Visited this place by chance on Aug.06 for lunch. Place is run down and dirty. I don 't mind it being old and super basic, but keep it clean. It is not a lovely place as described by another reviewer. It simply is a dump.We had a plate of 2 pcs fish chips. 25 total fair as portion was quite large.Without a doubt the worst fish chips we 've ever had. They used to be decent but haven't eaten here in years, plus they are currently closed they haven't reopened since last falls
Big Portions at Riverside Fish ChipsThis small, unassuming little snack bar in the heart of the town of Durham is a lovely place to go for fish Chips. The diner has tables for eat in but our preference was take out to enjoy by the river and waterfall. They offer a variety of fish options Halibut, haddock, Basa, pollock. etc in 1 or 2 piece meals. We decided on the 1 piece Basa as we just wanted a light lunch. The 2 gentlemen working were very pleasant and courteous. They had some friends visiting but they were still engaging with their customers. The fish was huge and the portion of fries was overwhelming. This was a lovely meal. Our Fish was a tad overcooked but not so much that it affected the flavour. the fries were perfect exactly what I look for with F C. I suspect the fish is frozen as it was very wet inside the batter. The price was very reasonable. In fact it ended up being a lot less than I anticipated. The diner itself is fun old snack bar. There is nothing fancy or pretentious here just good fish chips.Right beside it is a walking bridge over the river with a little waterfall you can enjoy your meal there, or in the back yard of the diner.

It simply is a dump.We had a plate of 2 pcs fish chips. 25 total fair as portion was quite large.Without a doubt the worst fish chips we 've ever had. Both were fried in OLD OIL to the point that fish had bitter aftertaste. Fries were mushy. Both very dark burned color. Absolutely horrid food. One star is fitting and goes solely to the hard working kids there.I would not feed this s !t to my kids.I noticed that the owner is responding to the positive reviews only. How about responding to the negative ones? How about changing frying oil on time?
Calling this place a dive would be kind. Overpriced menu for portion size and quality. Fries and gravy $10! Fries were warm at best and not crispy (like biting into mush). They offered to warm them up in the microwave but we chose to get our money back. Tables outside unclean and unkempt in a shady grassy area that smells of urine. We've been here a few years back and had a good experience e. Something seems to have changed.
The fish and chips are pretty tasty but also quite expensive. Will try the burger next time. The staff was very friendly.
