Careys Bay Historic - Dunedin

Carey's Bay Historic Hotel (and Pub) is a quaint stone building located just past the port near Port Chalmers. Upon our arrival, our host recommended that we dine there for their delicious seafood menu. Although we did not make a reservation, we were able to find an outdoor table with blankets provided to keep us warm by the water. We ordered a milk stout and a Hefeweizen while waiting for our food, and just as it started to drizzle, our meals arrived. Thankfully, we were promptly moved to an indoor table that became available. The staff was exceptional, and the food was superb. We enjoyed the seafood bowl (filled with steamed scallops, clams, mussels, green-lipped mussels, and white fish in a garlic coriander butter broth), the Thai curry seafood bowl (similar seafood selection in a creamy red Thai sauce served over rice), and a plate of loaded wedges, a popular New Zealand dish. The portions of seafood were generous, and the quality was outstanding. This hidden gem turned out to be a delightful dining spot, and judging by its popularity, it is definitely worth a visit for dinner or drinks.

If you're in the mood for seafood, this restaurant is a must-visit. The dishes are fresh with an Asian twist, and they offer a great selection of beer. The view overlooking a sheltered part of Otago Harbour adds to the dining experience. The historic and quaint decor adds charm to the atmosphere. The seafood is top-notch and well worth the price. The Poisson cru, a unique take on ceviche with an Asian flair, is a standout dish. Be sure to keep an eye out for the seafood specials, especially the bluff oysters freshly shucked from the shell during their season.

Beautiful personal, so courteous for vegan! I ordered the jackfruit roti sticky date pudding. the vegan sticky date pudding was phenomenal

Full vegan menu available, including dinge, which is not on the main menu and dessert! I had the red curry and the Jackfruit wraps, and sticky date pudding twice. home made vegan gelato yum yum yum yum.

Some nice vegan choices. the menu says that fried eating is not prepared in a separate vegan frit. in the wine and beer list, the vegan options are clearly specified.
