Went here with 3 other adults, wasn't sure what to expect. The place needs a good paint job and was looking a bit run down. Among us we had the soup special (cauliflower) with salad, the special quiche (broccoli parmesan), and a club sandwich. What User doesn't like about Gourmet Garden Restaurant:
Had family visiting from Calgary and took a drive up from Victoria to explore the Duncan market. Last year we brought family here for lunch and it was absolutely amazing. Service was not good and the waitress said she was only on her second day and basically it would be her last as she said they were very disorganized. Food took 45 minutes for 3 simple dishes. The food is still good, but the owner is so overworked (trying to support the cook, take orders and serve meals), that it takes forever to get your food. The owner is a nice lady, but she should really get help. We will return, but hope for changes.
We waited 20 minutes to have taken our order and then 30 minutes for our food and we had only ordered 2 grilled cheese and a quiche and our drinks never arrived. The food, the cake was pretty, but not worth waiting. Then we waited 20 minutes to pay, and in the end we gave up and left our money on the table. It turned out that there were only 1 lady who did everything: orders, cooking, serving. So I feel a little bad for them, they just need to get more staff!
My husband and I went around and we discovered this restaurant that seemed hidden in some efeu. It had a nice dining area outside with a beautiful water fountain so we decided to go. The waitress recognized us and was very pleasant. We ordered the Teriyaki rice dish and a prawn curry dish. Both were excellent. She let us know very carefully whether we needed more rice to which I took part. The coffee was also very good. All in all, it was a wonderful lunch. I wouldn't have had a better service. I really enjoyed it there and would definitely go back!
We were there on Saturday in December, made reservations as we thought it could be busy, but there were only 1 other set of customers for lunch. The service was erratic and food was very slow to come. The beef dip came without dips when we asked the server, she didn't think it came with dips. Really? There is a hint in the name of the plate... Half the meals came at a time, all the pommes were lukewarm. It was 10 minutes for the rest of the food. Food wasn't bad, but it wasn't worth waiting.
Went there with my Bridge girls for lunch. It's a long wait for your food, but it's worth the wait. So as long as your not in a hurry go there as the food was great. It's such a neat place with a garden entrance and fountain. Will go back for sure.
