Rest area on the way to Montreal. Came here expecting a fast food joint, um..what in heavens name is this place? The hostess stated it was a fast food restaurant and the kitchen is shared between the restaurant and the drive thru. For those of you from North NJ, its as though Grand Luxe Cafe and KFC had a love child. You go there expecting cheap low quality food, this love child attended a private school and has cache to it. As soon as you enter you are greeted with beautiful woodwork, leather benches, intricate chandeliers and modern fixtures. Eloise server) was lovely, attentive and had refills before asking. Food was pretty good, portions huge, oh also all you can eat coleslaw and all you can drink for refreshments. For those patrons with children there is a cute little kids area that has a half door so you can keep an eye on your little ones while you enjoy your food. They also serve alcoholic drinks, wine, and desserts. Bathrooms were impeccable clean as well. I don't know why this place has a two star review, but I would without a shadow of a doubt eat here again.
This place makes very good rotisserie chicken. They serve it with a brown gravy which seems to be from a mix and a boatload of French fries. While the chicken is very good, the fried potatoes are average and the ribs are not impressive. Anyone who's familiar with Midwest or Southern BBQ ribs will be underwhelmed with these ribs which taste like they were baked in a slow cooker or in oven then covered with generic tomato-based sauce after. Very tender, just average taste. I'll be back often for chicken but not ribs. I might mention that I'm fluent in French but not Quebecois. The hostess insisted on trying to speak English which was difficult to understand. I asked menu questions in both English and French and she couldn't answer. I believe i ordered a 1/4 chicken but ended up with a chicken- rib combo. The digital menu on carry out side rotates a new set of selections about every 10 seconds making it difficult to identify options lower in the list. The next two English speaking customers after me had the same communication issues.
Every time i go to Quebec i have to go to St Hubert. I love this place and since they dont have any near where i live i look forward to my travels in La Belle Province. I booked my hotel just off the highway and much to my surprise they shared a parking lot with St Hubert so i called in an order and believe it or not the delivery guy walked across with my order. Simple things make me happy. But this was a pleasant surprise. Now for the food: Chicken good size portion, and it was juicy and hot and the skin was crispy Fries, Crispy and not too much salt, just the way i like it. The sauce was tasty and not over powering The roll, well i wish they gave you a full one but they give you half of one, but its such a generous portion of everything else it really does not matter. Had the coleslaw on the side, and its got some zing to it. Since i travel alot for work, its good to know where you can find a good meal no matter where i am in the world. St Huberts is one of my chain restaurant favorites.
Very disorganized and brutally slow, in terms of waiting to be seated and estimating when tables would be ready told 15 minutes, waited for 45). Wait staff was also slow and inattentive it was over an hour between walking in and somebody taking our order. Not a good experience with 2 hungry children. We had to find our own cutlery and repeat 3 times our request for condiments. Very pretty decor, but very poor service. Dépensez votre argent ailleurs!!
Helpful staff even though we did not speak French. Food was fresh and hit the spot on a long road trip. Thank you!
