Really glad to have this be our local pub. Drink prices are solid, service is very friendly and everything we've tried on the menu is amazing. Very good wings. They make most of their sauces (dressings and all) in-house. It's a go to for sure! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about The Whittier:
Food didn 't really do too much for me. I got the DIY salad and the elk corn dogs. Maybe if I went with something a little more safe , I would have enjoyed it more. Staff and service were good. Place was cute, with an outdoor area. View all feedback.
This is welcome addition to an older, up and coming neighborhood! Newly remodeled from floor to ceiling, The Whittier is elegant and clean, with a terrific crew at the helm! This cute neighborhood bar is going to be a perfect stop this summer for anyone coming to or from downtown and City Park area. I will definitely be stopping by for cold beers and burgers this summer!
The food actually is decent, though the chicken sandwich is absolutely the smallest I've had at any restaurant ever. What gives this place a 1 Star is the bartender, Arnie. He was an uncouth, rude and disrespectful . I would recommend going unfed rather than waste money being trash talked by the person serving your food. Pro tip: Fire Arnie!!
Come on, y'all. As others have said, we really wanted to like this place, it has great potential. I love off the beaten path bars restaurants, and the building is lovely. So we've tried you out 5 times or so. Every time was a miss. In the evenings it feels like a bar run by high schoolers who have very recently discovered that they can get fucked up while on the job. Consequently, the vibe is low rent and, to me, profoundly uncool. The food is what it is. It would be perfectly tolerable were it not for the disinterested bartenders and the overall amateur feeling of the place. That kind of thing comes from the top down, and if there's no one setting a cool, welcoming tone at the top, no one further down has much of a chance either. Fortunately, there is one improvement y'all can make that's an easy fix dim the patio lights!! Seriously, it's like dissection table lighting out there. You have a dope outdoor patio in a quiet neighborhood just throw up a few strings of bistro lights and you're golden! For reference go peep the patio right up the street along that block of 17th with the Thin Man that's the vibe. We'll try you again, we're rooting for you, but you've got to give a ****.
Seal up the trophy case, Meryl Streep, the greatest living actor of our time is a mustachioed thespian working at Whittier Pub (and Playhouse? . Watching him delay our drinks and avoid our table like a man with nothing...and everything...to lose I couldn 't tell where the man ended and the server began. Like all great actors, he made us believe the unbelievable that the kitchen staff had closed and cleaned the grill in two minutes, all the while they were sitting on the patio. Some day, James Lipton may ask him his inspiration to convey a man who has the sudden revelation to eye his watch while taking an order for a cheeseburger, but the answer is meaningless. That kind of talent is a gift. Seriously, man. It 's obvious what happened. It was a slow Monday, and the kitchen closed early and cleaned up. And that would honestly have been ok with us. But to bring us menus, take our drink order, and then vanish until it 's 10:02, so you can feign some BS realization that it 's after 10:00 and the kitchen 'just closed '? That was not cool. Next time try a little honesty. You wouldn 't have lost several of your most frequent regulars.
So this place is what it is a decent neighborhood bar with a fun patio. They have a great backroom for parties and such.Is the service great, not always, but it's dependable. Drinks are fairly cheap and they have decent options and specials running almost all the time. The staff are friendly, they'll usually remember you after a few visits and I always feel welcome. The wings are always on point. So start there! If your looking for vegan and gluten free options keep driving.
