What User doesn't like about Galileo Cafe:
Pre covid this cafe was gorgeous but since reopening they have just seemed to go downhill. Recently we were in for a late lunch only to find out that they were doing dinner which would usually be fine only for the fact everything was massively overpriced! Bones of 20 euro for a bowl of pasta then a another 4.50 for garlic bread not to mention they charge 10 euro for kids meal. Outrageous really. Went to the junction... View all feedback.
I visited this restaurant with a friend. The service was mediocre. While we were still eating, the staff kept asking if we were finished so they could clear our plates, and they never offered us a dessert menu after our main course. It seemed like all they were focused on was cleaning up and closing. They were standing at the register, seeming uninterested, which made us feel like we had to leave.
The Pizza and Penne Arrabbiata were just average and lacked flavor. The chicken seemed to be pre-cooked and lacked any homemade taste. However, the prices were reasonable for lunch, the staff was friendly, the bathrooms were nice, and the food was delivered quickly.
We made a reservation for a table for six people and were required to order two courses for €38 from the set menu. Even if someone only wanted one course, they were still charged for two. Some in our group ordered pizza with dessert, while others had a starter and vegetarian risotto. We felt that €38 was very expensive for what we received. If we had been a party of two and ordered from the a la carte menu, it would have cost around €22, but this option was not available to us due to our group size. We were disappointed by this rule and felt it was a rip off. We will not be returning to this restaurant. It's no surprise that the couple seated next to us left shortly after looking at the menu. When we asked about the pricing, we received no satisfactory explanation. It seems unreasonable to charge €38 for a starter pizza. Perhaps they are trying to cover the cost of the decor, but it's not a sustainable business model in the long run.
Fantastic restaurant. Delicious food, reasonably priced, really nice stylish atmosphere, quick service and friendly staff. 100% will be back!
Visited Galileo on a recent visit to Clonmel. Reviews were interesting, mainly very good but reaction to bad one’s not great. We booked and very pleasantly surprised to find BYO. Brought a bottle and welcomed warmly. Good selection and both starters were excellent. Bruschetta with tomato and prawns with garlic. Large portions and prompt friendly service. We decided to share a pizza as they looked good (and large). While waiting for the pizza the manager told us there was a minimum spend of €25 each to avail of the BYO. In fairness this was on the back page of the menu after the desserts and I had seen it but not paying attention didn’t realise it was per person. If you have 2 starters and 2 mains you will reach €50 but as all portions are very generous we would not have finished them. A minor quibble but when we booked we were told about BTO and maybe should have been told about terms. More importantly this was handled very well by the manager and the pizza was super. Strongly recommend and will be back.
