We were staying nearby and walked past and decided to have breakfast here. The waitress was very friendly and the menu looked great. My son wanted the homemade crumpets which they didn't have and they offered to make him pancakes which were really good. I had the mushrooms and avocado on toast and it was amazing. The portions are very big and there is an option for half size. My daughter had the French toast which wa... View all feedback.
What Jack Jakubowski doesn't like about Bar Mattino:
this caffe in chippendale has been the best secret for natives for many years. in 2015 I published an evaluation that says that, although the management had changed, bar mattino was still a favorite. how sad it is that this local institution has run into the floor. the decor is ashamed and eating terrible. when you go to breakfast and lunch, they expect it to be better than they would do at home especially for simple... Good selection on the menu and you can enjoy a beer with your meal if you choose to. The owner is a friendly and attentive man who cares about the food and is very welcoming. A great local option for lunch!
Recently having changed management Bar Mattino has had a well deserved face lift but the menu has pretty much stayed the same and the serving size is large and delicious. A great spot for Sunday Brunch in Chippendale.
Locals love Bar Mattino. You are welcomed by Sigrid as if an old family friend returning home, with absolutely professionalism. The menu changes every day and they update this on their FB page. From duck ragu to fish of the day, their meals are restaurant quality despite the cafe appearance. Servings are generous. One of the popular combinations is their half soup half salad which is really two meals in one.Their salads change daily and are both creative and amazingly healthy, with options of seared beef, poached or roast chicken. The wine list is small but divine, with other options including mulled wine in winter.Gluten free and vegetarians are always catered for and chef will make special meals to accommodate your needs. To die for slices and cakes alongside green juices and beautiful teas makes this a great relaxed dining experience.Sundays are roast days and oh my goodness, who could even finish half of their mixed lamb and chicken special. Not me, but the Yorkshire puddings baked fresh and the creative accompaniments put a real twist on a traditional toast.Breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea weekdays.

My daughter had the French toast which was also very good and my husband had eggs on Turkish bread which again was cooked to perfection. The coffee was good here and we really enjoyed the breakfast here and would highly recommend.
The menu for breakfast is very diverse. We tried the huevos rancheros and bacon and egg roll with onion and cheese. The food was delicious(very good bread), the portions are generous, the service very friendly.
