When they say "berries," I would expect a selection of blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries.

It was such a great choice, as our food was fa... read more We decided to treat ourselves to a Sunday roast at The Wheatsheaf, having heard good things about the food there. It was such a great choice, as our food was fabulous. We had booked our table, which was a good decision as it was getting quite busy. It was ready for us, with our name on it, with nicely set out glasses and cutlery. We had our dog with us and he was given biscuits and water. It was no problem having him in the eating area. Although if you have a lively dog, I'd possibly not bring them, as it's not a massive space. We opted for the roast beef. It was perfectly cooked a real surprise as a lot of places overcook the meat. This was pink and served with red wine gravy and all the trimmings. The veggies were lovely. We had crisp roast potatoes, parsnips carrots, tenderstem broccoli and cauliflower cheese. The plate was not overloaded, which was appealing. Also it wasn't dominated by any over sweetened red cabbage, which seems to be a thing at the moment! The home made mint sauce was fresh and vibrant. The service was fabulous thank you Cheryl. We were really well looked after and made to feel very welcome. I'd really recommend The Wheatsheaf Sunday Roast based on our experience.

We were a table of 9 who were fed at 8.45pm on a Tuesday, when many other pubs would have stopped serving food. Good selection local ales and the food was incredibly tasty. The staff were very helpful and cheerful.

The... read more We had an hour to grab some drinks. We received the warmest welcome I have ever experienced, with the owner and his daughter really making us feel at home. The beer was excellent and the pub is located in a fascinating historical building. I can't wait to come back and have a meal here again. Anyone visiting the city should definitely stop by and check it out.

The food we tried was decent, but I don't think I would dine there again. However, I would definitely return for another drink. Thank you!
