I had a great experience at this charming and character-filled hotel. Our room was spotless and the king bed was incredibly comfortable, despite the room being on the smaller side – which is to be expected given the hotel's age. The location is perfect for walking to nearby restaurants and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable, providing excellent recommendations for local dining spots. I would definitely stay he... It’s as original as it gets. Our shower handle sprayed a stream of hot water like a geyser in Yellowstone. The air conditioner was off and took quite some time to cook it down. The bed was ok. As for the look of the hotel it is dimly lit and looks creepy. The elevator is big enough for 2 people and bags tops. You’re in a central location to most of downtown just beware of the homeless population and break ins. They a... View all feedback.
Was two years ago with my son, forget to give an assessment. Beautiful place, huge rooms (our room anyway I have read some others, are small), historically interesting (reviewing why the elevator is so tiny), but a bit old and a little shady (not dirty only old and a bit worn in places); though, they worked at improvements. The staff was excellent. Only stayed one night and wished they told me when we checked in what I might want to experience because I had the surprise that night. I woke up to hit the head in the wet hours, four dark thirty or so, and when I saw groggily looking at the foot of my bed, a woman sat there in a long white dress. She seemed more etheric, I could see through her. I stared at her and concentrated my eyes and thoughts, I still slept and dreamed. The thing is, in a few seconds I was far awake and she was still sitting there with her long dark hair flowing over her shoulders and her dress, and she turned to look at me. I remember she brushed her hair. Maybe it took half a minute or more. Then she was suddenly gone. The next morning when we drove to the elevator, we met a couple and chat briefly. The guy of the two asked us if you see the ghost... He then told me that the check in the employees had assured him that the place was visited by a spirit of a woman!!! No one had mentioned this to me or my son before this moment and I had never heard of this hotel before we arrived to Cheyenne the day before. We chose it because it was in downtown where we wanted to be near some places to eat and so we could walk a bit. This was a completely unexpected and amazing experience; I will ask myself more and more whether it was a real spirit if they had any kind of hologram projector, or if I dreamed him and then randomly the ghost story was told; but as I said, after two seconds or so, I was far awake on my eyes and it took at least half a minute. One thing I should add, they were dog friendly and my dog weighed about 48 pounds at the time so that they accept quite large, not only the 20 pounds. or less than most other hotels. I don't remember if they accused my Mongrel Skye, but if they did, it was minimal.
Beautiful lobby and very informative about history. So much to read and see. Large central location makes it easy to get everything from a new pair of boots or trousers to an amazing cup of coffee to a new tattoo. Everything is within walking distance.
First, when I asked for availability in this hotel today, I was told that the elevator didn't work and a number of rooms on the second floor had no running water. Okay, how much for a room with water? If you have a first world problem with a 111-year-old hotel that does not meet your 21st standards You stay with a marriott (not despise, Marriott, as you have a charming staff and are always a beautiful place) or better still, just stay at home. So everything will meet your standards until you die. Unexpected and boring. Adventure doesn't happen when everything goes right. I am an archaeologist and travels constantly for my company for which I am responsible for the western United States. I can't even begin to tell you about some of the strange and wonderful places I've stayed over. I was a couch surfer in Alaska and Montana. I stayed in $12 a night Blue Cat Hostel in Las Vegas. I also stayed at a motel in Tulsa, where I slept in my clothes, because they apparently turned only the pillow from the previous (and obviously dirty guest). I would have slept in my truck. I don't write all this because I'm a crazy adventure girl, but because I know what I get when I book my accommodation. If you want your water the perfect temperature, and your pillows are tiled, and additional towels in your gym, then stay in a hotel that offers. However, if you want to spend a place with a story and a personality and may not have the perfect temperature of the water if you take your shower, then the Plains Hotel in Cheyenne Wyoming is a beautiful place to stay. Come on! Get out of your comfort zone and make something interesting in your life! This is a nice hotel. I've had enough bad to see the difference.
Great historic hotel right in downtown Cheyenne surrounded by breweries. The one across the street serves breakfast. Parking is off site, but the tiny old time elevator is worth a spin.
We've stayed at many historic hotels across the country. There's a difference between old and run down and historic. We stayed in 434. The electric sockets were so loose we couldn't keep our phones plugged in. We had to charge them in our rental car. There was mold in the shower. The tub took forever to drain, so by the time the water got hot (we timed it...6 min) you're standing in a pond to your ankles. The carpet was stained and clearly decades old. The lamp shades were covered in dust. The one window was absolutely so filthy we couldn't see thru it. The AC in the window was very loud. Because the windows are old and the AC is open to the outside, traffic is extremely loud from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Drag racing across the bridge is a favorite past time for the locals, and we were there during the week. Only 1 of our door keys worked. Even after taking it to the desk and being told it was fixed, it didn't work when we tried it. There's a fridge in the room that freezes everything regardless of what you set it on. Updates are desperately needed. There are positives that are about the historic building. The lobby is incredible, and I noticed new things every time we passed thru. Multiple times we just sat in the lobby for the ambiance instead of being in our room. The staff were always friendly. The tiny mirrored elevator has a story. The staff will tell you about it and the ghosts. We were happy about the hotel's location literally in the heart of it all. We walked to The Train Depot Museum, The Wrangler for shopping, and various restaurants. There's a free parking lot nearby but some free spots on the street as well.
