I've been coming here since I was a child, and was eager to recommend Rod Reel as a meeting place to a friend who lives in St Mary's County. I was excited to see that with so many other changes in CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Rod Reel has remained the same as I'd remembered. The food, the view, the service...incredible! Special thanks to Sam for taking such good care of us, even with a grumpy kiddo in tow. I understand that Rod... View all feedback.
What Carrie Mcqueen doesn't like about Rod 'n ' Reel:
The food took awhile to come to our table. The crab dip had NO lump crabmeat visible in it, but had spinach? The fried fish was very dry. Took over 15 minutes to run my payment card. No valet parking attendant was available upon arrival , we had to park in the parking garage and walk. Made using a cane an experience. View all feedback.
Do not recommend . Would give 0 stars if I could. Fraudulent charges were added after my recent stay. Currently disputing with my bank because the managers were rude about it when I asked for proof of the “irreparable damage” I supposedly caused to the linens . $100 cleaning fee. Dirty rooms. Mold in bathrooms. Outdated rooms. Feels like you’re staying in a cheap motel . If you want to access the restaurants or casino or anything other than the rooms there, you have to walk outdoors to do so. Even getting to your vehicle you have to expose yourself to the weathers elements … A lot of things were closed “due to ongoing construction” View of the water from my hotel room was heavily obstructed due to construction cranes and other construction equipment . Food in the restaurant was overpriced for the mediocre quality I do not recommend , I will not be back!
Had a meeting. The meeting room was quiet even though it was in the midst of the slots section. Only negative truly was the chairs very uncomfortable if sitting for more than an hour. This is now the second or third time that I have been there and the chairs are atrocious! Establishment needs to take responsibility and acknowledge if they are having business meetings that providing comfortable chairs essential!
I had no idea that the Rod and Reel Restaurant had been demolished. The replacement is a bar and grill called The 1936. The food was good, but I was looking forward to a nice grilled rockfish filet, and my husband was looking forward to crabs. The only rockfish on yhe menu was breaded nuggets as an appetizer.I ended up with a xmchopped steak, mashed potatoes and green beans. It was good but the portion was huge. I would have preferred half portion at half the price!
Closed for the season bit the website for the resort doesn't say that. There are other options but walking a lot with older family makes it difficult. I understand closing after summer but put that on the website and list how far you have to walk to other restaurants. It's a beautiful space. It's just that we're vacationing with family who are much to old to walk long.
We always enjoy ourselves here. We attended a Mother's Day brunch this year. Everyone managed to find something on the menu to enjoy. Highly recommend reservations (we had one) and look forward to visiting again once the parking garage and resort extension are complete. Kid-friendliness: My girls felt spoiled by the attention they were given by the servers. They were even gifted scarves left over from the main brunch experience. Parking: Limited handicap parking when we visited. But it appeared that an expansion was taking place.
