Best ice cream in the state. It's a little pricey, but 1- Ellen uses fresh, high quality ingredients and 2- it's just ice cream. If you complain about spending a few extra dollars to support a local business, just go eat the **** at Dairy Queen. The grilled cheese sandwiches here are incredible too. And the mixed berry smoothies! I love the curried chicken salad on Wednesdays. Coffee is better than Taylor Books. But... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Ellen's Homemade Ice Cream:
Visiting from out of state. Looked online for a local homemade ice cream while in Charleston. Very excited to try local ice cream. After locating and parking we find a small hand written sign saying they are closed. written with pen so not visible driving by) There was nothing online saying closed. Wasted gas and coins to park. Wonderful environment. Make sure to go in the right door lol All employees are very friendly and helpful, the menu is a little confusing. Everything tasted amazing!! And BEAUTIFUL seating it’s gorgeous inside. I got the brownie sundae with Oreo espresso ice cream and the portion size was huge and delish.
Amazing variety and taste! Staff aren't always friendly and don't regulate smoking around the doors but this is an awesome place! Would love to see dairy free ice cream, and lavender and wild berry ice cream!
AMAZING food and such a cozy little place to eat and relax. I got the chicken Caesar wrap and it was filled with tomatoes to my liking somehow and my fiancé got a pepperoni roll that he enjoyed. I got a strawberry banana/mixed berry smoothie and legi the best smoothie I've ever had in my life. I got a cup of the raspberry chocolate chip ice cream and really wish I had gotten more, such an amazing flavor. My fiancé got chocolate chip in a waffle cone and really liked it, and gave me the rest. It was definitely great also, the waffle cone alone was to die for. Thank you guys for a fantastic lunch!
The young man working there was right the carrot cake cupcake was something else.Really neat little place. Every downtown would be better to have an Ellen's on the block.
Lovely flavors, cheery space, and smiling staff made my first visit a pleasure. I enjoyed a scoop of butter pecan (creamy, lightly sweet, with enough pecans for some in every bite) and a perfectly balanced Guinness scoop (Guinness was present in the background, not full forward, and there was no slightly sour aftertaste of beer a nice change from other experiences with Guiness based ice cream). A suggestion, add some dark chocolate covered mini pretzels to that Guiness and it would be stellar! While expensive, the ice cream is made on site and the quality is worth it. Plus, the experience Ellen has created with the lovely shop is sure to have you enjoying your visit. I'll certainly be back.
