I was born for Sundays at el Pizote. Real, authentic Costa Rican food. The food is super cheap and they serve great sizes of everything, so you may wanna come hungry to try different options of the menu. MUSTS: Chicharrones (fried pork delicious and the classic dish of El Pizote, never miss them) Olla de Carne (beef stew, the one on the pictures, this will bring you back to life) Pozoles, Picadillos and a bucket of beers! They open Saturdays and Sundays only.
El Pizote deserves 5 stars because of the amazing traditional food they serve, the huge portions, low prices and the place that will take you to any rural rancho feeling. Como here if you are ready for a down to earth Palenque party. Do not expect anything fancy but this is precisely the cherry in top of this place. Get wasted with the beer and cheap whisky promos but careful in the road down or up. Don’t expect to arrive here in bus/ walking or cab. Take your own ride.
For an authentic and delicious local meal, try Chicharronera El Pizote We stayed just down the road and walked 10000 steps ! to get to this authentic local restaurant. It was complete with a small area with chickens, goats, turkeys enclosed for families to see as a few dogs walked around the parking area. There's plenty of parking and on Sundays you can expect to see lots of locals at this favorite restaurant. We ordered PLENTY of food, enough to feed a small army. My favorite were the plantains, potatoes and chicken. We also ordered some drinks called frescos made with locally grown fruits that were fabulous. If you're wondering, El Pizote is a small animal, a cross between a badger and a racoon. Even though one sign shows a pig, don't be confused : So if you're open to trying some Costa Rican fare where the locals go, try El Pizote.
Traditional food at very good prices. The chicharrones are awesome, the Pozol is great too.
