What Sandi Pepper doesn't like about Southern Roots Cafe:
The food is insulting. The place is VERY small and the owners are very nice. The food is not what is listed. We ate lunch here and couldn’t believe how delicious the food tasted!!! Everything we ordered was great from the chicken fried chicken, fish, macaroni, mash potatoes, okra, etc! You will walk away so happy!

The shrimp Creole is basically thin, non-seasoned chicken gumbo with shrimp added. The casseroles are just mashed frozen vegetables, and you have to navigate through a nursery of very small children to get to the bathroom. The poor boys are not on traditional French bread but on some hoagie roll and served with diced onions! It is very strange for a place that claims to be traditional type food. Order whatever comes in frozen, then fried.. like the okra
Tried this spot for the first time and really liked it! True family run restaurant with nice service and great food. Everything is made fresh when you order but we didn't wait long. Shrimp po boy was delicious, the burgers were big and juicy, and the fries were seasoned well. Red beans and rice was some of the best I've had. Everything was reasonably priced especially considering the portions size. Glad we finally got to try this place, we will be back!
Nice family run restaurant. Food was delicious! We had Shrimp po boy, country fried steak basket, red beans and rice.
Stopped in for a late lunch (mid afternoon), had the shrimp and fish po'boys, both of which were very good. Had dirty rice and mac'n'cheese as the sides and they were both great, too. Good home style cooking, friendly staff and owners. Family owned restaurants like this are the way to go.
