Had the nicest cup of coffee and scone a few days ago in MacCarthys. Sat in a lovely snug (a rarity in the pubs of Ireland today and enjoyed a lovely scone, still warm out of the oven! It's clear the owners have done a great job handling a very historic pub and an icon of Castletownbere. View all feedback.
The Sky Riders had a fascinating visit ,and were enthralled by Adriane's telling of her Dad's heroic story. It was one of the highlights of our annual motorcycle trip to West Kerry and Cork.
Fantastic old fashioned pub with lots of interesting items on display throughout the bar. There is a fascinating history to this pub that is well worth looking into. It's a great place for a bit of lunch or a snack. On our visit to Castletownbere we used McCarthys Bar as a meeting place each even. We were very well looked after by the staff, management and owners.
A search for a break on the noon in our journey among friends, we chose this pub a little randomly. What good did we take? superb Irish welcome (a customer has even changed places to let us settle between the counter and the window), a warm atmosphere, a typical decoration and advices wise on the choice of dishes. So, after a very good day soup and delicious crab sandwiches we were able to return the shaved stomach and the warmed soul!
