We took a day trip to Castlemaine to visit the mill and we had lunch here. We sat in the protected courtyard and checked the menu that was somewhat different from what I had seen on the line, but I was recommended to all 10" pizzas $15 everyone could “veganified.” There was actually also a share plate and snack menu that was largely vegan, but not available on Sunday, the day we were there. For three of us I ordered a funghi with cheese modified vegan mozzarella; an El Gordo Napoli, rocket, capsicum, onion, olives, garlic minus pumpkin, with vegan cheese; and a Zucca Napoli, parsley, pepitas, pesto minus pumpkin. The vegan cheese, which cost an additional $3, was obviously a liquid sauce instead of a melted solid, but it was delicious, and went particularly well with the mushrooms. Pizzas were tasty and reasonable and the person also announced that they were vegan while they were served them, which I always appreciate. We washed everything with a pint of beer that I was told all varieties on tap are vegan.
Spent the day walking around the local area. Having this place to relax at, over pizza and beer/cider really made the day. There’s 2 pizzas that can be made vegan and plenty of vegan friendly drinks.
I ordered a Funghi pizza with vegan mozzarella, an El Gordo Napoli pizza with vegan cheese (minus the pumpkin), and a Zucca Napoli pizza with vegan cheese (minus the pumpkin). The vegan cheese had a liquid sauce consistency, but it was delicious and paired well with the mushrooms. The pizzas were flavorful and reasonably priced. The server made a point to mention that they were vegan when serving them, which I appreciated. To wash it all down, we enjoyed a pint of beer, as I was informed that all the varieties on tap were vegan. Overall, we had a pleasant dining experience at this restaurant.
I recently tried the vegan pizza at this restaurant, and I was impressed by the option to make almost all pizzas vegan. They also offer a vegan cheese board featuring cheese from The Vegan Dairy. The experience was better than my last visit in November 2023.
