We chose to have dinner here as it is right on the canal so the location is great and it was our last night so we thought it would be perfect. It was only ok - not great but also not the worst place we ate at on our 7 day barging trip. The cassoulet was lacking in comparison to the one we had enjoyed earlier in the day and the desserts weren't great. Perhaps choose a spot off the beaten track rather.
A calm summer night, good company, choosing a restaurant on the port, we took our seats at Brasserie la Cybele soon to be squeezed in so our disabled friend could not even get out from around the table. The gambas were not so fresh - the persillade sauce was full of prawn feelers and tasted like prawn heads, the rice was heavy and tasteless. My friends opted for the filet mignon de porc but found their fries were frozen fries, not fresh, the onion confiture was chunky and unpleasant, the salads were under-dressed with over ripe tasteless squares of tomato tossed in.Asking for salt and pepper, more water, more dressing met with delays and then our plates were not cleared. The staff were like cafe servers, no frills.A horrible experience and for €15 one could do a lot better. It's one solid attribute is being on the water's edge but the place is like a cafe.
One of 3 or4 other restaurants on this street, it is theonly one right on the Canal rather than across the street. It was too hot for us to eat cassoulet, the unavoidable specialty of Castelnaudary, so we just had salads which were ok. The cassouets dishes looked just too huge butr smelled divine!
My friend and I on a day out ordered 2 salads here. We ordered Paysanne salad as my friend cannot eat fried foods. We were delivered 2 more expensive salads which included fried chicken. We tried to explain quietly they were incorrect. The woman immediately raised her voice almost yelling telling us we were wrong. I have been a restaurant owner myself, and I know what I ordered. We offered to pay and leave. She charged us for the most expensive chicken salad, which we had to leave. She wouldn't even listen to us. It is the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant of any kind, in all my worldly travels of over 50 countries. I think a compromise should have been offered. Disgusted.
On the river and the kitchen provides a nice choice for lunch and wine. We chose the black pudding and regional salad. Delicious and the staff provide a nice welcome - working out of a attendant barge. Nice place to watch the floating world go by.
