I have been to Bach Dang Vietnamese Restaurant in Canley Vale and on those two occasions the food has been excellent and plentiful. HOWEVER on those two occasions, also, we have had food delivered to our table, food we had not ordered. It seems to...me that this is a ploy from the management kitchen to push food onto people in order to inflate the bill. Many diners, in their joy, in their for food, may say: OK leave... What Benjamin Fritsch doesn't like about Bach Dang Vietnamese Restaurant:
This restaurant offers terrible food and service. I have been dining out for 30 years and have never experienced such bad service. I used to eat here at least twice a week, but now I would recommend avoiding it at all costs if you don't want to ruin your day. The waitstaff is very rude and I will never be returning. Terrible ! Mains before entree . Fresh Vietnamese rolls tasted like sand . Pancake was given to us with no pork just bean shoots and a couple of prawns . Left feeling ripped off . Never again !
I have been a diner here for over 30 years however, after dinner last night, I need to write a new review for this restaurant. Service to non-asians appears to be very lacking. The entree of ground beef served with prawn crackers has shrunk in size considerably, the spring rolls were lacking flavour and the pastry was thick and heavy. For mains, we ordered the braised prawns in lemongrass and hot chilli. Not sure what happened to the hot chili, we couldn't detect any and the prawns were so overcooked and rubbery. We could not finish eating all the prawns. The specialty dish of campfire beef was nice. In years past, as this dish cooked on the table the wait staff would come and stir this dish so it was cooked evenly. On my last number of visits, the less than helpful staff do not attend to this and therefore the diners have to dodge the flames in order to try and stir the ingredients. I informed the staff of the poor quality of the prawn dish but there was no apology. I also noted that Asian diners were brought watermelon slices at the end of their meal but not us! With the other excellent Vietnamese restaurants now both in Canley Vale and Canley Heights, Bach Dang needs to greatly improve their service and the quality of their food. I am sorry to say, that after this visit, we would not choose to eat here again.
From the outside the restaurant looks great - once you enter its even better. The lemongrass chilli chicken is a favourite but if you feel like seafood, you wont be disappointed. Chose from a variety of LIVE fish, crab and lobster and a bigger variety of ways to cook and enjoy. The XO lobster cant be beaten. finish up with a sweet pancake or 2. They are licenced and cater for many tastes - but BYO is also an option. There is a free multi storey council car park accrues the road behind the bakery, or sometimes street parking is available - and just a minute walk up Canley Vale road from the Station. You will be surprised at how good Bach Dang actually is - I've been eating there for over 20 years....
We were there for lunch on a holiday weekend and the restaurant was not very busy. This place serves the best pawpaw pork, prawn jelly fish salad, the lime dressing is to die for.We also had stir fried crab, abalone and sour soup with catfish. All the dishes were well executed. The service was excellent and we had a great lunch. The server said it gets very busy and hectic in the evenings.
Went there with my family and booked 2 big tables. When we placed our order the waiter kept pushing us to order the most expensive dishes, we felt pressured, ended up ordering 24 seafood rolls because he kept on pushing. The seafood roll was not nice at all . When the bill came the seafood rolls alone cost $168, more expensive than the crab and live fish we ordered. We felt cheated . The restaurant is well established, we don't mind paying for quality food. It really shouldn't push people to order expensive dishes that are not up to standard. It would only damage your reputation.
