Our meals were fabulous. XO prawns., spiced crispy duck, chicken pao, cummin crusted beef and stirfry vegetables...4 very satisfied persons and not a scrap left. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Golden Drum Chinese Restaurant:
ordering the lunch special before 1pm should ensure it is reasonably fresh, and hot? Served cold (they were meant to be hot). Explained situation, apologies accepted and they tried again. Not heated through second time around. Claimed they cooked dishes again. Even tea was tepid. Power outtage? Won't be rushing back. Hot and satisfying lunch at Shanghai Dumpling cafe around the corner saved our lunch experience. View all feedback.
Yum cha was fresh and delicious except for one set of dumplings which was slightly off. Completely understandable given the place has recently changed management and they must be going through a few teething issues, they replaced them immediately and were very embarassed. The wait staff was worried we wouldn't like certain dishes because one of us was white, so over all a great experience with a couple significant flaws. I'll be coming back sometime for sure though
Excellent and authentic food (choose from the spicy menu rather than westernised dishes for the best results)
I'm not a big fan of Chinese food but as my friend and I walked around the uni we noticed it was crowded with a lot of Chinese customers so thought it was a good place. Ordering took a while. I had asked the waitress for popular dishes but she wasn't very helpful - I don't think she was confident with her english. The food took a while to come out. It was OK - not awful, not outstanding -- maybe it was the dishes we ordered. The owner came around to check on us, which was nice. Not expensive. Not sure I'd come again though.

When in Canberra, I went along with a mate to check this restaurant out. He likes his Asian food and it had a good number of Asians eating there. Good sign one would think. It's got a nice enough décor, so that's a good start. The lady taking our order was having trouble understanding my question about whether I needed to order extra rice or not. I saw her notepad and noticed very neat Chinese writing, so she was a student with poor English skills. I bring this up as an interesting experience, not a complaint.I had dumplings to start. I asked for the mixed dumplings and that was fine. They came back to say they were out and picked another but then they came back to say they found some!! Hopefully not from under the fridge!! They were nice.I had a satay chicken and and rice. Sorry to be rude Golden Drum, but it didn't look particularly good at all!! Luckily, the flavours were nice, and so was the chicken. Not great, but enjoyable and tasty. I wouldn't mind eating here again.
