View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Restaurante Convento das Vinhas:
we went here because of the good recommendations. it was good, but not great. the staff is very fast, so we are in 45 minutes for 2 courses. we shared the meat and that was more enough. View all feedback.
Not welcome with average over expensive food we came, got a table and waited. in the meantime came another couple after us was given a menu and had taken their orders. we had not given anything! the waiter when he arrived, was at the ransoming to be rude, to roll his eyes and when he asked about the dressing, he said it was only meere fruit or meat. I didn't have any grills. no sauce. we asked what to do with him first. He obviously had a bad day and gave the impression that we were an inconvenience. we thought that eating doesn't sound very attractive. but it was ordered 9.40 at this point and was told we had 10 minutes then had to go. the food came, but we sent it back because it was not cooked. it was nice enough. we have been on the island for 10 days and had some nice meals at the marina with beautiful workers better eating, which is cheaper
Great eating and great environment in madeira. they should try local limpets and the fish soup. the waiters are really nice.
Had lunch with my family and I will definitely recommend it. the beach view of calheta is fantastic and the restaurant is clean, the staff very nice and friendly. they showed us the fresh fish before being cooked (that is really good as they can say. it is fresh.) we had grilled fish plates and was lush. sangria tasty too. in any case worth a try.
Too often on holiday, especially in newly developed resorts, the local restaurants are all very similar offering rather ordinary fare with a substantial bill at the end. This restaurant is quite the opposite, the food is beautifully prepared and served by charming staff who couldn't...be more helpful. I have been fortunate to have traveled the world extensively on business and eaten at some of the finest restaurants with multiple Michelin stars yet Convento Das Vinhas offers food that is equal to those establishments but with friendly staff and the bill that will astonish you at how little they charge.
We came here last year and the food and service was really great. We had a bottle of Meteaus rose on the veranda while we ordered and then went to our table which overlooked the valley with views of the sea. Food was fantastic. Service also fantastic. If you haven't tried them you have to try the Espatade. Mouth watering.
