Good breakfast here. Good selection , big portions.People from the nearby hotels seem to go here like we did to escape the expensive buffet breakfast at the hotel .Service can be spotty and keep in mind its in the original mill bldg. from the late 1880's, including the furniture and flooring , which adds to the historic feel .Not lot of seating but if you have 2-4 people then its perfect. What Kylie Morissette doesn't like about 1886 Buffalo Cafe:
My husband and I decided to give this restaurant a try for a weekend brunch, but we were let down by the unfriendly hostess and our waitress. The service was slow and the staff seemed disinterested in their work. The blueberry pancakes were average at best and the omelette was just okay. The floors, windows, and bathrooms were all dirty, which was off-putting. Overall, we were not impressed and don't plan on returnin... View all feedback.
What a great place! Quiet! You can actually Caryonah conversation even when it's very busy.
Breakfast was plentiful in this 100 year old former lumber company nestled in the heart of downtown Calgary.
Regrettably, I was not able to experience the 1886 Buffalo Cafe because they decided to close during operating hours at 12:55PM.
The food and atmosphere at 1886 are good and the portions are enormous. There are, however, few options beyond your basic egg-based breakfast. No pancakes or french toast, etc.
Even though they don't take reservations the food is well worth the wait. This historic Calgary landmark provides a quaint and rustic atmosphere for you to enjoy your food. Take in the the old photos of Calgary and the 1886 Lumber Co. down in the basement before you leave. The buffalo heads on the wall are something to admire while you're enjoying your meal. The service is attentive and friendly. You will want to come back to 1886 time and again.
