Frankly, it is not easy to write a review about this restaurant. The atmosphere is quite unique. What Ingegniere69 doesn't like about Il Barrino:
I am writing this in English to help the non-italian speakers visiting CALCI. The restaurant embodies all that should not be in an Italian restaurant. 1. when you enter, nobody welcomes you, on the contrary seems like they are not happy you came in. 2. Despite the detailed menu, and only after you have made you choices, the waiter informs you that only 20% of those in the menu are available. Most are winter dishes! 3... View all feedback.

They can get a price in making the worst pizza in italy. (actually not true, I have eaten once something worse in my 48 years of life) 4. Tagliata, is not tagliata . It is normal cooked beef, covered with rucola and parmigiano. 5. service is at snail pace, it took them 15 minutes to bring us the menu.
There are surprisingly few restaurants actually in Calci, so if you don't want to drive this is a good option. We hadn't reserved for a sunday evening dinner but still got a table for 5, although not on the terrace. There's a surprisingly large menu including lots of local specialities as well as pizzas. No english menus, no english spoken, so take your phrase book! Lots of good food though all the dishes were very tasty. Wine is either red of white, and the white was fizzy, which was a bit unexpected (so I stuck to red! . Overall it feels like a very authentic Italian restaurant, and great value.
We visited this lovely little place twice during our stay in Calci as we liked it so much. No frills or extras just a nice provincial place to eat offering good value and great pizza. Staff spoke little English but that's the way I like it as frankly any idiot with a phrase book should be able to order a meal in Italian! Pizza was the best I have ever eaten and there was plenty of it. The situation is in a lovely old street and in the evening it was a great place to sit and watch provincial Italian life.
We had lunch in this restaurant in June 2014. After visiting the National natural history museum, we went to this charming village and looked for food. The lunch menu is short and we had limited choices. The food was Ok, the service was fair and friendly staff only spoke Italian. We used our simple Italian hands and arms) to communicate with him, he was very helpful. Dislike: those old bread they served us and the toilet was dirty! I have told this waiter and he rolled his eyes!

Portions are generous and for reasonable prices. If you visit it, definitely try their pizza. It is just fantastic! One of the best I've ever had.
