You know a hidden gem when you see a dodgy as f-restaurant tucked away in a laneway and riddled with food safety risks, yet still manages to draw queues on the regular. Probably in the top 3 'com tam ' offerings in Sydney. Huge servings. Tasty. Under $10. You get in. You order. You eat. You leave. You don 't ask questions. View all feedback.
What Chi N doesn't like about Tuong Lai Vietnamese Restaurant:
The size of the restaurant is very small and crowded so it is not suitable for wheelchair customer. At peak time you can wait for a while. Best dish is Broken rice/Com tam. View all feedback.
I came to TƯƠNG LAI restaurant for lunch today with a Vietnamese friend who felt like cơm tấm a broken rice dish. The restaurant was full with other Vietnamese dinners and we ended up sharing a table with another couple. This is a local, eatery, there is no fancy decor, only delicious food at a budget friendly price. My friend and I both had the house special of CƠM TẤM ĐẶC BIỆT (Broken rice with Chargrilled pork chop, Shredded pork skin, Pork patty and Sunny side fried egg). This is exactly what it would be like having it at a local suburban restaurant in Vietnam. Highly recommend it for an authentic and satisfying dinning experience.
4.5/5 Broken rice, or cơm tấm, prefers to the broken rice grains during the milling process. Broken rice has been a staple for lower-class Vietnamese. Pair these grains with grilled pork chops, steam meatloaf, sunny side up egg, shredded pork skins, and drizzle the deliciousness with a dipping sauce; you’ll get yourself a perfect meal. Vietnamese enjoy cơm tấm any time of the day. Breakfast, lunch, dinner. You name it. In Australia, the element I find lacking in cơm tấm is the charred flavour of the pork chops, often achieved by grilling over hot coals. However, Tuong Lai has taken me to the memory lane. The meat is tender, smoky, and flavourful. The broken rice is cooked to perfection. Perhaps the best one I’ve tried so far. Pricing is very competitive too. You know you’ve found an authentic Vietnamese restaurant when you see a strict auntie chopping veggies and preparing condiments in the dining table nearby.
I came back to my country and I miss this place. it was very first Vietnamese food I had in Sydney and still the best even though I've been to a lot of other places. The rice was real authentic, tasty. just amazing. 시드니에서 파는 베트남 음식 중에 제일 맛있었어요 원래 쌀국수만 먹었는데 여기서 먹은 덮밥같은거 저렴하고 맛있습니당
This place reminds me of the places you would eat in Vietnam with authentic dishes at very good prices. The two of us ordered three dishes which was generous in serving size. There’s always a queue but the wait is minimal as there’s a quick turnover if you don’t mind sharing a table with other patrons. The staff is friendly and efficient. I will be definitely visiting again.
This authentic Vietnamese restaurant, selling best broken rice very nice and must try in Sydney, other food also good
