This is a fantastic old-fashioned neighborhood tavern. While they don't serve food yet, that's coming soon. It's a lovely and friendly spot to enjoy a couple of beers. View all feedback.
What Lucius Torp doesn't like about Adolf's Old First Ward Tavern:
The owner was genuinely nice and did his best to accommodate us, as we were the only diners at the time. Unfortunately, the food left much to be desired, with the colcannon being the worst dish we ordered. I’m not Irish, but I make a delicious colcannon at home, and it certainly doesn’t take three days to prepare. The colcannon was served in the form of potato pancakes, which was unexpected and not at all what I had... View all feedback.
The owners and staff are fantastic, always welcoming you with a smile and a friendly greeting. Their wings are among the best you'll find, and their beef on weck and Reubens are delicious as well. There's always something surprising on the menu, like the time they offered stuffed banana pepper soup. I highly recommend this place for both the wonderful food and the authentic First Ward Irish bar atmosphere.
We went specifically for the wings, having heard that they were both delicious and reasonably priced. The menu listed them as market price, and 20 wings came out to just $25 – a great deal! The wings were big and meaty, tossed in medium sauce. They were excellent, though I could have used a bit more heat. Thankfully, Frank's Red Hot was available on the table for those who want to spice things up. We also ordered fries, which were served hot, perfectly salted, and in generous portions. Adolph's offers some Polish specialties too, so we tried the potato and cheese pierogi, which were fantastic. Everyone has their own preference when it comes to wings, and Adolph's wings are lightly sauced. So if you’re a fan of extra saucy wings, be sure to request it. The menu is extensive, and everything we saw looked appetizing and generous in size. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a 1930s bar in Old First Ward, attracting many patrons looking to enjoy a drink. One of the hardest things to find is a properly poured Guinness, but I hit the jackpot here! It was served at the ideal temperature with a perfect head – deeply satisfying. You can skip the airfare to Dublin; this experience is right here! The wait staff was honestly exceptional: prompt, attentive, friendly, considerate, and genuinely happy. All of this shows that it’s a great place to work, which makes it a wonderful place for customers as well. This has become my new favorite bar!
Delicious food, fantastic music, and ice-cold beer—what more could an Irishman ask for?

I really enjoy spending time at Adolfs! They have an excellent selection of beers available both in bottles and on tap. The staff is fantastic too! Looking forward to seeing you all soon!
