After years of hearing about this places' fabled burek, a few months ago my cousin and I got a square of cheese and a square of spinach burek. Safe to say, we've gone back to try the meat version, and last week I bought my first whole meat pie. Not only is it super tasty, filling and inexpensive, but my son, a VERY picky eater LOVES it!! Thank goodness this is right up the block so we can have whenever we want. Also,... View all feedback.
Walked past the store was drawn in by the delicious odor emanating from the front open door. Walked in said, “something smells good but I don’t know what it is I would like to try.” Then realized there was a small communication issue, but thankfully a gentleman at a table provided a helpful interpretation. The kind ladies went above beyond to help me get a slice each of both the meat cheese. Wow! This dish is delicious whenever I pass this neighborhood, I will order a entire pie to take back home maybe an extra meat slice to eat on the way!
The spinach and cheese burek is extraordinary. When it comes fresh out of the oven, its a explosion of flavor and warmth. We also had the cheese burek also tasty but perhaps not as much as the spinach and cheese one. The place has a limited menu (including homemade yogurt) but each item on the menu is super delicious. The folks at the counter are very kind and friendly. If you are ever in the area visiting the Bronx zoo or the Botanical gardens, this is definitely the place to grab dinner. The place is tiny with around 5 tables and very bare bones decor, but the bureks are worth it. They are $5 each. A whole burek pie costs $20.
Prices have increased like everywhere else. But still worth a visit. This is good cold and rewarms well. $24 per pie. It's not so much the filling but the bread!
First time having burek and it was hot and delicious. Glad we stopped to try something new. The meat and cheese pies were hot and delicious.
Great Burek from a little, no-nonsense place. There are only 3 options: meat, cheese, or spinach burek, and they're all good. Our favorite was the spinach, though the meat came in a close second. At $6 per slice (quarter pie) or $24 for the whole thing, I would recommend getting one of each.
